cassette tape values

what are cassettes going for these days?

not just the boxed factory ones but things like;

discrete campaigns (on rorscach testing) touch factory DATs

do many people have them & if they don't do they covet them? don't often see the discrete campaigns etc up for sale, there's a touch on ebay at the moment for a tenner (with the magazine) but you do see the fac305c cassette from select all the time....

I got the world in motion and get the message casette singles for 50p each in charity shops!

One of the standard NO releases that fetches a bit more on cassette is Get Ready. Their last tape issue? Didn't seem to be that many produced.

Wow, I didnt know it exist as I havent seen one before. So I guess you got one,huh? Not an Indonesian release?:D

Haven't got one myself.. yet. On eBay they come up every now and then, but seem to go for more than I'm willing to shell out for a tape!

i have a boxed cass verion of substance which is worth about 15-20 quid. side A has murder on it but is not listed as a side A credit on the inlay card.

I have a copy of the Get Ready cassette .The inner fold out insert is a bugger to fold back up.

I've got all the NO linen-box releases, recommended purchasing for the Factory purist. The JD ones tend to go for a fair whack more.

good question. i have PC&L Low Life, Brotherhood, and Substance (double casssette) in Oz release versions. i also the second Peel session on cassete uk version. i wonder if they're worth any more than i payed for them? either way i'll keep them.

i have all the NO albums on cassette (qwest), but i never listen to them and i look at all my cassettes which i used to be so proud of back in the day and just sigh. now they're just fun to go through occasionally and say 'oh, yeah! i remember that.'

i did buy a northside cassette on eBay for 99p. of course, shipping from the UK upped that quite a bit!

here's a tip you shoud occaisionaly fast forward or rewind them, as old tape has a habit of wanting to stick togetether, and may eventually become unplayable.

a laser will not yet help you preserve your tapes. a laser might actually be harmful to them.

yes cds are much easier to handle and sound better than tapes.

Anyway, going back to the subject. I've never seen another Discreet Campaigns for sale so I'm not sure of its worth. The £10 being asked for the eBay Touch seems quite reasonable, as it's the pucker first edition. Most of the original stock of that item was destroyed in a flood at the Touch offices and it was subsequently re-released in much less ambitious packaging. No idea how many of the wallet and booklet type survived.

I have the Touch, well, so the ladies say.

Can't remember which tape version, mind. What was the difference in packaging in each, OB?

Original one came with booklet and vinyl pouch, re-release just had a conventional inlay card.

I have the touch at the bottom. (oo-er!)

Nice, I do have the original. Always wondered whether my cassette was legit but it's the same as yours.

That's what happened to one of my tapes that I bought used - The Culture Club's "Kissing to be clever". I didn't play or rewind it for a few years, and then when I tried to play it out of curiousity, no sounds came out.

In 1987, i walked into Woolworths in aberdeen and bought all of the NO factory linen cassette boxes. it was quite bizarre as they seemed a bit dirty and might have been lying in a dusty storeroom for a long time or something. i also bought the acr and durutti column ones.

never seen them in any of the'good' record shops in Aberdeen before.

I only collected vinyl at the time, but kept them coz the postcards and stuff were cool.

I spose these are worth something but wouldna sell em.

They probably were sitting in a store room for a long time.

As pretty as these cassettes were, they simply weren't a practical retail item. The likes of Woolworths couldn't fit them into their standard cassette displays so many were tucked away, never to be sold!

File that one away alongside the loss-making BM sleeve and the obscenely expensive boardroom table.

Another classic example of Factory's triumph of style over sense.

I didnt know there's a 2-tape version - my 'REST OF' is a single cassette version and it looks good displayed next to my 'BEST OF' cassette. So, this hard-to-find 2-tape version - I supposed has a silver background (like the 2-CDs version) instead of white?

Yeah, there's a mix of EGG (dave clarke) that I particularly liked on it. The actual cassette of mine has chewed up as usual and the mix was only ever available on this format. It's still nice to look at in my collection though.

I picked up my Sunstance linen boxed version in Woolworths some time after it had been released as well! Think I read somewhere that most of the linen boxes for this release were sold by them

The 2-tape version was the UK release. Referring to the Ivarsson discography, it looks like you've got the single-tape Canadian release.

We only got this on CD as far as I can remember.

I'm still after the 2-tape version, but you don't see them come around that often on eBay, etc.

That Dave Clarke mix is also on the 2xLP, which I do have. Not the CD though. Another pressing you don't see so often these days.

Peter Saville's tedious WHITE obsession (too much cocaine old son?) started with the New Order Factory Box cassette releases. It's all very well having them in this splendid format but then most of them invariably go horribly yellow and brown with all those awful ageing spots. I've yet to see any on Ebay that are absolutely pristine.

You dont see many of tyhe factory tapes these days, unless you are prepared to hunt through box upon box in chazza shops that is!

I had ALL the factory tapes and the original fac cd's but they went to the second hand market when i was skint! mind you so did the depeche cds and vids that mrs bought me!

As for the dats, i can see tem fetching over £100 a peice in the next 10- 15 years,especially the sealed ones. Come to think of it ,i think i have a sealed technique dat and the substance dat in orignal cover and the jd subsatnce dat,have i missed any?

I have the Technique one but never been able to play it. Bit like the vids on the CDVs actually

I've traded a few of the Factory linen-box tapes over the years, they're one of my favourite items. Most of the ones I have are actually fairly white, mind you they've been bagged for years. You do still see some fairly pristine ones occasionally.
