"Control" — rock photographer/director Anton Corbijn's long-awaited paean to departed Joy Division singer Ian Curtis — has moved at a glacial development pace for the last two years, but the film finally looks like it's beginning to take shape. Corbijn flatly dismissed rumors that Jude Law would play the deceased singer ("Laughable," Corbijn said. "I read that in the tabloids and it's nonsense") but said Samantha Morton is attached to play Curtis' wife, Deborah. It's not the first time Corbijn has worked with Morton; the director cast her as the mermaid in U2's "Electrical Storm" video in 2002. While he wouldn't reveal who has been cast as Ian Curtis, the first-time feature-length director says he hopes to start shooting the film in early 2006. "I originally moved to England [from Holland] for this band. The subject matter is very close to my heart," he said. "There's no agenda on my end, apart from making this a fantastic movie. I'm not trying to become a big film director, I just want to make this one movie." ...

Thank God he won't be playing Ian!! Can't stand the guy. Nor I can imagine him being Ian Curtis (at least in a 100 or so min. of the film). Bet it was tempting for poor Jude! Bet he wanted to be the 'icon' even only in the picture!!:spit:

I suppose it all would boil down to how well Jude could have erased "Jude" and become his character of "Ian"... look at what Joaquin Pheonix has done with Johnny Cash in 'Walk the Line'.

I see the picture needing a larger name for a theater release (in America), but if we're going for a nostalgia piece, the best choice would be an up and coming unknown, right?

Anyone know an actor who could be a prime pick?
