Not all have work in the title but all refer to the dull and dreary task that is work! ![]()
That's Livin alright (Theme to Auf Wiedersehn Pet) is a fookin classic an all![]()
"Working all day for a pittance of pay, and blow it on a Saturday night, to get a little beer and to keep you in gear...That's Livin Alright" :)

Brian...we aren't supposed to admit that we know anything about Loverboy!!!! by the way...the lead singer is wearing the same leather pants now that he wore way back then...even though he is the same size as Barney!!!

perhaps because they are different songs...

Liv - I thought they both sang that classic
Then I realised that Big Tits only (starred
) appeared in the film!
What about We can WORK it out?![]()

"16 years of school and then they put you on the day-shift" Subterranean Homesick Blues...Bob Dylan
i want 11 dollar bills you've only got ten
remember the episode of the Young Ones with subterreaniaannn homesick blues?
Turn My Way - NewOrder "don't wanna hafto work..."
Working Class Hero!!!! Great song! Maybe the best listed so far. If only the Stones had been more poplular than the Beatles Mick would be dead and John would be alive today. Fuking Stones! Waste of human life. Should be shot on site for not being "more important than God" and recording decades of useless material. Mick Jagger rot in Hell. We Want Lennon!

Yep - WCH is a fookin classic
Like the way you think mate....Lennon or Jagger......always Lennon!
There was a classic song in Australia Called Workin Class Man, by a guy called Jimmy Barnes, a man more famous for drinking copious amounts of alcohol, dropping speed like sugar and screaming into a microphone while looking decidedly discrepit, oh and he was also the lead singer in the band that wrote other classic/iconic australian songs, Khe Sahn and Flametrees, Cold Chisel

Yep - The young One's was brilliant
Who the feck were singing it?
Also there was a guy from England called Tom Watt who was an actor and appeared in Eastenders, he also released this song, and in the video it features New Order and The Fall. Steve Morris' dancing was fookin dead funny - and at one point our Barney is sleeping on the settee (that's how good this version really is
)
ANOTHER List topic, Taboo??!!
My god, you're churning 'em out at the rate of knots aren't you?!?! Still, as they say, if it gets the ratings in....

Let's see what I can recall...
The Clash-Career Opportunities
Talking Heads-Found A Job
The Jam-Smithers Jones
The Pop Group-We Are All Prostitutes
Madness-Grey Day
The Fall-Fit And Working Again
and maybe most obviously,
Magazine-Model Worker
Nice one Green Guy - I was thinking of The Clash's Career Opportunities earlier
Classic track, but I was having so much fun - I clearly forgot about it![]()
Thanks Shug, just realized that maybe I've dated myself...all the tracks are from 76-83 or so. BTW, I am not depressed about that either.![]()
The song that always goes through my head when I'm at work is 'Echo Beach' by Martha and the Muffins (I think) ![]()
Just for the opening line "My job is very boring......." ;)
How's about Adam's original Ants - "W.O.R.K. (N.O. Nah No No My Daddy Don't)" by BowWowWow?
Ooof, I fancied her when I was a nipper.

Still older than me though! I cut up the 12" cover of I Want Candy to stick on me wall when I was a kid - her lying naked, dressed as a leopard! Phwoar!
I worked hard To give you all the things that you need And almost anything that you see I spent a lifetime working on you And you won't even talk to me
New Order - Love Less
Obi, I owe you a beer for knocking Mental As Anything back into my memory. My buddy in high school had their record that started with the lawn mower sound effect...Spirit Got Lost was on there. I loved that record. Are they still around?
As for the finest worksongs, no one beats the Smiths:
"I was looking for a job, and then I found a job/ And heaven knows I'm miserable now" - Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now
"The devil will find work for idle hands to do" - What Difference Does It Make?
"And if you must go to work tomorrow/ Well if I were you I wouldn't bother" - Still Ill
"No, I've never had a job/ Because I've never wanted one" - You've Got Everything Now
And for the proletarians among you, a double shot of Oingo Boingo:
"Wild Sex in the Working Class" b/w "Whole Day Off"
Gotta get home fast!

It might be DEVO, then again it could be the original as performed in the late 60's by soul legend LEE DORSEY.

I thought the very first lines were :- "I know it's out of fashion, and a trifle uncool...."
I've got the original single gathering dust somewhere in the vaults... ![]()

What about:
Rat Race - The Specials The Model - Kraftwerk
or, err, Tour de France, which is work if you're a cyclist...

It because a scottish man led the band, and i cannot recall any song they sang about work, not that i was very interested in finding out. But good call anyway.

Nah sorry bud but the mentals kind of broke up at the start of the 90's, the lead singer went to a solo career and another member, Reg Mombassa went on to create the Australian clothing company Mambo, where he designs most of the prints for the shirts (if you have seen any Mambo shirts they are totally out there but very interesting, a very beach culture feel to everything they do). I am sure they have reformed for comeback gigs every now and again. I have some of their stuff on cd so if you are interested i get you a copy. Just email me with the details if you are keen. ![]()

Tabsy, Friday on my Mind was done by the aussie band The Easybeats, and was voted the best australian song recently by several australian music afficianados.

fair enough, (see what you mean) - but how was she both naked & dressed as a leopard? (only had the 7" one sided & didnt get the picture sleeve!)
Okay... so us Aussie's neglected to mention Men At Work, but I haven't heard any Pommies mention The Working Hour - Tears For Fears! Cheers to any XTC fans out there too ... Now, I wonder if A Flock Of Seagulls sang any songs about work ... (then again, who give a right toss).
