This is an archived legacy thread. Replies are closed, but the discussion is preserved.

This topic is in acknowledgement of our onliner friend Taboo - the List Thread Champion! - so it's another way of gathering together the ultimate dirty dozen of your most loathed/hated New Order moments onto one CD to throw back at the band - or their record company - or their legions of remixers. Absolutely anything is allowed - remixes, edits, radio mixes, demos - you list 'em... Let's see how far this goes then before everyone gets bored and starts talking about alcohol, breasts and football once again, heh heh...

(Rule: TWELVE SONGS is all you can list.)

With the exception of Regret, I hate most of the stuff on Republic. The songs were good, but the sound was too sterile.

1 - Slow Jam 2 - Slow Jam 3 - Slow Jam 4 - Slow Jam 5 - Slow Jam 6 - Slow Jam 7 - Slow Jam 8 - Slow Jam 9 - Slow Jam 10 - Slow Jam 11 - Slow Jam 12 - Slow Jam

The rest are miles better than this piece of shit!

All remixes post Spooky. There must be easily 12 of those fuckers.

except of course the Lee Coombs mix of Crystal right Mickey?

i would rather hear 11 minutes of the dull digweed dub than 3 seconds of Slow Jam.

12?

There's only 1 - but I'm not allowed to mention it anymore:lol:

Bollocks you lot - you should list the 12 songs properly to qualify - this just isn't good enough!! :nonono: And you Shug - you disappoint me - if you hate World In Motion so much, then you should only take great pleasure in listing every possible remix/demix/acapella out-take/ceilidh folk deconstruction you can think of.... so let me get you started then....

  1. Subbuteo mix
  2. Keith Allen Vomit mix
  3. hasta la vista mix

okay? good enough?

:cool2:

Yeah, and you still find it in every fucking store and it seems it will last forever. Is it the remaining stock from 1993? Where are the good singles that you can't find anymore?

I really hate BLT remix in The rest of album. Where is the song anyway. It's another song with Barney's sampling voices.

I've decided not to include remixes in my vote. So, if I focus on original songs, my Worst Of compilation would be:

  1. World in fucking motion
  2. World (not in motion, but the one that costs a lot to be loved)
  3. Shellshock
  4. State of the fucking nation
  5. Liar
  6. Chemical
  7. Young offender
  8. Touched by the hand of god
  9. Mr Disco
  10. Round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round & round
  11. Bacon Lettuce & Tomato
  12. Rocking carol

And if I'm allowed to make it a double CD like Substance, I would simply take Movement as CD2.

To compile the wosrt 12 New Order songs/remixes is actually harder than it initially looks. Imagine the trauma of having to mentally run thruogh the worst moments and try to unscrammble them from your memory.... not a very nice prospect. Although I'll have to post a definitve list eventually, these will have do suffice as starters:

World (the Price of Love) (any mix) Liar Turn The Heater On (OFF more like!) We All Stand Most of those terrible mixes of The Rest Of New Order Those Sly'n'Robbie mixes of "Ruined" (I think everyone should have those in their list, I can't think of anyone who actually likes them) Those 1995 mixes of Blue Monday The remix 12" of World In Motion (a bit pointless) Shellshock Subculture (the remixed 12" single version)

Oh, yeah another thing - to call it "Subsidence" I think is so appropriate! Genius idea for a title that Hubertie!!  Funny how no one else thought of that before!!!

I'm thinking of changing the criteria on this thread a bit now, seeing as there are so many sodding fooking lists things going on at present we're in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves in danger of over-repeating ourselves...oops, sorry...

So I'm going to amend this to what you consider in your opinion are : THE TWELVE WORST THINGS ABOUT NEW ORDER.

I have a few I can call to mind at present:

They leave long gaps between records. They are lazy fookers. They have a terrible dress sense. They let their record company piss all over them. They play the same song sets over and over again. They still won't let Blue Monday die a dignified death. They choose to desecrate Joy Division songs by whooping them up (literally).

OKAY OKAY OKAY - It's time for me to RRRRRRIP open another six pack and get myself royally SMASHED....cuz I've got the house to meself tonite as my little girl's now tucked up fast asleep.....ahhh, this is the life! :)

1 - Gillian no longer plays with them 2 - They lift too many singles off their albums 3 - Their second single choices are usually bad ones 4 - Hooky and Barney are far too overweight for our liking 5 - They played the same sets every gig of their current tour 6 - Rob Gretton is no longer with them 7 - Martin Hannet can no longer produce them 8 - Stephen Hague was their worst producer 9 - They never rereleased Bizarre Love Triangle 10 - They have disgusting eating habits (especially Hooky) 11 - Steven Morris's chin is still way too long 12 - They'll probably leave another ten year gap after this last album

  1. They're not touring the US again

A DOZEN worst things about New Order? There isn't any need to do that as far as i'm concerned.... At this point I can say that the worst thing New Order have done is

THEY'VE NEVER EVER PLAYED A GIG IN CORNWALL, THE BASTARDS!!!

What the feck is their problem?? Why do they always ignore us?? The nearest they've been is Glastonbury! That's another universe away as far as us yokels are concerned...do they not regard us as the same species?? The unforgivable cheek of it all!!

Huberto - let me explain:nod: Years and years ago:lol: I was a prolific goalscorer (had trials for several clubs) One day while scoring an overhead kick - my wee brother John said "Nice one Shugsy V" so I said "eh?" - The V satnds for Voeller (as in Rudi Voeller the prolific German goalscorer) who had more than a slight tint of Red in his hair - so this explains the V - the Z is just an abbreviation from Shugsy - ShugZ - so there you have it ShugZV;) As fer the 12 songs - can't be arsed as I'm such a Lazy bastard (check numerous threads:lol: ) just pick 12 mixes of that dreadful song for me:lol:

1957 Harold McMillan becomes British PM, Israel hands over Gaza to US Troops, Joseph McCarthy dies, Billy Graham begins crusade in New York, Britain explodes it's first H-Bomb, Eire - state of emergency and internment without trial, USSR launches first space satellite, In Cuba Dictator Batista suspends constitution, Soviets send dog into orbit, Queen makes her first Christmas TV broadcast:nonono: , Boris Pasternak's Doctor Zhivago, Leonard Bernsteins musical West Side Story, Civil Rights struggle in Little Rock Arkansas, Castro declares "Total War" on the dictatorial regime of Batista. Glasgow Celtic beat Glasgow Rangers 7-1 in Scottish League Cup Final......"Oh Hampden in the sun, Celtic 7 and the Rangers 1"

Well Sloppy, I didn't really become a New Order afficionado until 1986 so I must have been completely unaware of them having even played a gig on my own doorstep practically - at the time I was still listening to alot of local music (my parents play in many Cornish ensemble bands so I guess that's where most of my earlier musical upbringing came courtesy of....solo performers like Cewlrîs Èdrwns and Johann Largsson for example) New Order were probably the first "rock" band I owned records by, amazing though that may seem, then I got into stuff like The Orb and Aphex Twin (a fellow Cornishman of course!) in due course. But thanks for filling us in with that bit of info - seems you know almost everything there is to know about the band!!
