Harsh comments on Bernard. I think he has been looking damn fine these last few years. Prefer him now than in his younger days.

Can see some similar things, but he's a man in his own right!

Shatner and Sumner...sounds like a lounge act for 2009 Las Vegas where "the boys" will eventually reside...Elvis-like.

Had to clean off the computer screen with the comparison!! It is a keeper.

Hardly. Bernard isn't half as good on the guitar as Gilmour is I'm afraid

Personally I disagree and regarding Gilmour's guitar work Tony Wilson's "Jazz comment" from 24HPP readily comes to mind i.e. "the performer's enjoying it far more than the audience". I watched Live 8 (simply because there was fuck all else on that day) and Gilmour's solos had me flipping through other channels after 30 seconds. He was in a little world of his own and fretwanking for all his worth which was a) pretentious and b) boring. Sort of sums of Pink Floyd really.

Barney's guitar style may be slightly more rudimentary but at least it packs a punch strong enough to keep you interested between verses. If Barney went off on a 2 minute long guitar solo I'd quickly skip to the next track. Being able to bang out a hundred notes in 30 seconds has never impressed me, it's just smacks of arrogance and "look at me" type playing.

Believe it or not, there is a very real link between Sumner and Gilmour...in the form of one MrGuy Pratt, who was a session muso for Electronic on bass (pre-Jimi Goodwin) and also replaced Roger Waters on bass for the live Floyd shows since about '87 or so. Jobbing session muso he most certainly is ("currently plays bass for Roxy Music", no less) but as such he has a fairly intersting CV.

Incidentally, it is possible to enjoy Floyd as well as NO, as disparate as the music may initially seem - only a Sith deals in absolutes!
