New order on the Onion.com

I can imagine New order will make their rounds in some of the "best of" lists around the world, but they will probably figure in charts like this one:

However, keeping in the fun of self-righteous press people who think readers actually care what they think, New order might make the list of what one of the writers from the Onion.com website calls: The Shit List.

Yeah, I get that impression a lot from music hacks. The Factory days are gone. Some people just can't get over that. Personally, I'm just grateful that they're still around and (to my ears) they're still churning out tip-top tunes :D

Now it's personal. Sure, the Onion is ok bashing Phish, Bush and U2 but New Order's music...Them's fightin' words.

New Order does not deserve to be lumped in with M83, Bright Eyes, and Clap Your Hands Say Yeah :barf:

I get tired of reading that sort of review (which has been most prevalent this year). I look on it as the reviewer being too young or too self-absorbed to 'get' New Order, or any decent music that isn't brown-nosing the 'hip' thing at the moment in culture.

I have a feeling that things NO are doing right now will still influence and innovate in subtle ways the music that will be played a decade from now.

I read the top 10 lists of the Onion writers. EEEEWWWWW!!!! What a bunch of boring shit these people listen to. You would think people who write comedy would have more interesting taste in music.

I am not a big fan of the Onion either. I'm glad they exist in my generation. There is no way you can go wrong with New Order.

Some folk like 'em, some don't. Doesn't really matter much. One advantage of getting old is being unable to remember why one ever thought music press reviewers opinions mattered. They're all, like, 12 years old for God's sake. I'm also still a bit baffled why the music press here collectively wetted itself for the rather dull retro 'Strokes'.

Personally WFTSC has really grown on me, in a way that GR didn't.

I saw a couple of these "top 100 albums of the year" lists in the Sundays yesterday and neither of them had WFTSC. When you look at the shite that was above them... Well, this is the country where the best viewing figures for the weekend were a karaoke knock-out competition!

I love Boulder but I can see how a lot of the crusties don't get New Order. They should stick to what they know.....recycling, protesting, mountainbiking, acid jazz, and margeritas at the Rio.

The fact that WFTSC wasnt trashed by more of the music press just shows how soft they have gotten... its good that a few BS Detectors are still working properly... bravo, Onion!

Music shoud be love or hate, not the sort of bland respect that fans of all ages drown the mediocrity of the band who still calls themselves New Order with... as fans we get what we deserve... ask more of your artists and you will get more out of your experience...

It took me til my thirties to realise that music journos only hype up records to keep themselves in a job.

I just checked theOnion.com and I don't see this anywhere. The fact that they were on both the best AND worst list of the year shows how maddeningly arbitrary the reviews are on the Onion.

Now that some time has passed this is my honest opinion of WFTSC:

It starts and ends with some of the best music of their career but from I Told You So to Guilt.. it goes a bit downhill.

Hey AJ Wells, just curious: what's your idea of good music? New order can't be groundbreaking anymore, the truth is that there's NO SUCH THING as 'groundbreaking' music anymore...everything's been done before and popular music is now in a period of recycling its greatest hits over and over. You might say this is a cop out for being creative but it's not. There are no genuinely innovative or awe-inspiring bands at the moment.

Now it's just having the right combination of retro sounds and having the right sound/look at the right time. It's over.

Them @ the onion.com aint gorra clue! Just look at all the polls jd/no have ever been in,they never score highly,but they dont need to score highly,we know exactly what we've got and they know they have a massive ,if ,dare i say it,underground following so why should we bother bout articles anyway. If i remember,over the last 15 years theres only been q magazine that has a good thing to say about new order anyways,so why bother!
