Highlights of 2005

WFTSC.

Ah has to be Oakland. The excitement was unbearable, even after the boring DJ and the Chemical bros set (which dragged on a bit for me). I remember being right infront of Hooky and shouting his name like a little teenage girl. And then that drunken harpy pushed past us to the railings, screeching all through the songs, and being rewarded with Hooky's pick!

That's a personal favourite because it was my first New order gig. Those who were in Brixton will probably vote for that. Peel day was incredible because Warsaw and Shadowplay were so fkin unlikely.

2005 has been a fantastic year for New order, its got better as the year's gone on. Even got a half decent album out!

... and i still haven't got a copy of "item" or better the 2 separate DVD's. Still got the "story"-tape and the "substance"-videocollection on my shelf... may christmas come...

NO live Les Vieilles Charrues (France), especially Everything's gone green. Totally unexpected! I agree with you, Spotnick though !

HP here as well since it was the only NO gig I made to last (err this!) year. My very first one too, plus all this taking place in my favourite city in the whole wide world. You get the picture I'm sure :)

Another vote for the Audley/Hydepark. Seeing NO in concert and hanging out with Maya and other Noolers, what can I say. A truly memorable day.

The highlight for me this year was Ian Curtis on the cover of Mojo Magazine, a great read by a great magazine. In second place, obviously, was the release of the WFTSC album, not New Order's greatest album, but it contains many great moments (in particular "Morning Night And Day").Overall, i think it was good year for New Order, and a good year to be a New Order fan, a new album and "NewOrderStory" and "A COLLECTION" being released on DVD.

Brixton. It was a wicked night and the band were well up for it. The crowd were nuts from beginning to end. Best night of my life!

for me it was Item being released on DVD. The Neworderstory has to be one of the best documented (book, video or otherwise) accounts of the story of a cherished musical outfit. being in Montreal, Canada, didnt get a chance to see them live so this is the next best thing another highlight for me was to see that richard x's remix of blt was a welcomed update to an already brilliant song.

The Oakland show. My cherry-popping first NO show. Packed against the front barrier directly in front of Hooky. Can't get much better than that. At least that way I avoided all those pesky Vikings. :shy:

WFTSC has to be it, low point of the year, (NO related) has to be warners inability to supply a DVD that can be played on english DVD players, tossers.

Surely we can all agree the consummate high point of 2005 was hearing the extraordinary Shatterglass Mix of Jetstream broadcast on XFM's Remix show.

Well, I got a kick out of it.

The release of the DVD "A Collection" was the best surprise to me.

I put down the DVDs, because I have been looking forward to this stuff since I got my first dvd player and thought "good grief, seeing this projected onto a proper screen and with a really great sound system would be heaven!"

Secondly would be all the buzz going on for them. I haven't seen this much NO related stuff out there since 1993 (well, it was just a lot more vivid than the Get Ready buzz - perhaps because of not only NO buzz but residual 24PP and Control and all the crazy mag articles, and all the bands outing themselves of their NO closet.) and I could probably stay high on this excitement for another decade like I did with the Republic era stuff.

getting to see 'em live again.

Personally, another vote for Oakland here, great gig, too bad it was in such a crap town and that lots of people had to hurry down to Coachella afterward. Getting to meet Jerry Harrison after the show was a nice bonus though.

Loved the trio of 7" singles for the title track as well.

Finally being able to obtain a "legal" copy of the full-length NOstory.

A new album at this stage in their careers is an absolute bonus. Just remember the long days between Republic and Get Ready...

I said the gigs too. Especially in Turin where I only went coz of the major coincidence that I happened to be there on business. So therefore EGG in Turin.

Hearing that New Order got nominated for a Grammy. Finally, some recognition. I remembered how shocked I was when I heard the news. Legends never die.

I downloaded Singles off of iTunes for $9.90. Not that thrilling a high, but it seemed like a deal.

You can also download a verison with the Secret Machines mix, but that's $19.99.

Or you could pay $19.99 to download it from buy.com, but the second disc isn't included.

Gotta love digital releases.

highlight of the year for me was a in gig comment from hooky at hyde park. "you must all be over forty ya bunch of fuckin daft bastards" knowing full well that he was refering to the usual suspects on this site. now that did make me smile.

Being a 'club sound du jour' junkie, the endless proliferation of remixes for the singles has kept me ecstatic for months.........

the work of Rich Morel, DJ Dan, Eric Kupper, A Baker, Conte, et all have just made my year.........Im so happy with this band, yet again.

Gotta be the Hyde Park gig for me. Finally got a chance to meet all the nool nutbars. The Audley session was fantastic!

Plus, the actual gig itself,the beers,the moshpit,the st johns ambulance tent,the scuffed trainers,the lost mobile phone that miracalously turned up via mrs and the aching back that i inherited from those daft forty year old moshers. I could hardly walk the next day ,but it was worth it!

I can't really make a choice, but maybe the best thing was WFTSC… just released in time for my birthday !

NOT playing Blue Monday @ Glastonbury, to the annoyance of several thousand people and the the glee of about 20.

NOT playing piss stream at brixton or manchester. Well done lads. Taste and intelligence prevails in the end.

Oh Yes ! 2005 was a big New Order year for me:

• I saw them live 2 times! @ Les Vieilles Charrues @ Canal+ session (thank you Nico )

• I meet them after the Canal+ show. I felt so extraordinary

I hope them touring in France in 2006.

The way it it stopped raining just in time for the band to come on at Hyde Park.Every time I go to to London to see them in open air it pisses down all day then as if they were some kind of Gods it clears up for them to perform.

I hate to say it, but a high/low point was listening to Singles on my iPod yesterday for the first time. I love the new records, really I do...

But the first handful of tracks on Singles are just so brilliant -- godlike genius. Flawless. And then Subculture comes on and you know it's all downhill, fast.

Highlights too numerous to mention.It's just been New Order Year for me. WFTSC...Singles...ITEM. Meeting Hooky at last,what a geezer! Doing what I've always wanted to do..a "neworderdisco" or TWO. Discovering NOOL and chatting to other NO fans who are mad as cheese. My first VIKING badge!!! Cheers Al. Seeing NO and JD getting their recognition for their input. And seeing them live again after not seeing them since 2001.

Yes, I failed to check my email until after I got back and realized a sizeable amount of NOOLers were present. I think I was a few feet behind from Wasim near the crowd surfers with the mohawks.

Having said that Glasto, Manc, Brixton & JP were pretty special too .

What an amazing NOOL year it has been.

For me highlights were - Oxegen - meeting those most excelent Greek Order (Martha, Sophia & Elias) & then a good smattering of Vikings. A long weekend out with the Greeks including a night with Ness & DoN - & MYOB, where is he these days?

Then The Apollo, traveling with Clockwork C, Angel with a catapult, All the craic in JB's, eating with the Irish order & Sam chapman, SHORTS, meeting Steve Campbell, KLF, BigInOil, Shug, getting a few more words with those i'd met briefly in Dublin, LOTS more I cant remember, & another few drinks with Ness & Don & back home within 24 hours - sleep? who needs it, sure I'm only a kid!

Three Viking pins - priceless! - thanks Al, DoN & Ness for those.

Now I really feel I'm part of a community (probably means we should ALL be locked up:D )

Biggest highlight? New Order still being around.

This was the year in which I bought every proper New Order album, having bought substance at the start of 2004 (simply because it had true faith on it) it took me over six months to appreciate the songs on it other than Blue Monday and True Faith. Then on the advice of a couple of real ale twats I bought technique, followed by PCL, which took a bit longer to get into. Then bought republic, followed by WFTSC in September, Brotherhood from some place in Rotterdam on my way back from Germany then GR and LL in November. Completed my album collection on Wednesday buying Movement in Leeds. Maybe it's because I now read/listen/watch anything NO related on TV, or maybe it's a coincidence, but they do seem to be getting more media coverage. My wax in interest came just before Glasto- Temptation was the best song of the weekend. T was shit though.

In a year when Flowers is one of the biggest faces in music- I share his two main favourites. Oasis and NO without even knowing until a few months back.

Been thinking about this and it seems like a year of highlights. It's been a brilliant year NO-wise, wonderful to see them turning up everywhere. Seeing them live at Brixton and Manchester was the best way to round out 2005. Also gave me the chance to meet some of you good folks! :)

The new album was the hilight of 2005 for me. Just to hear a whole CD worth of new material. That rocked. I want the next album. :( Sooner. NO is like a crack addiction. lol
