All Day Long - The best Xmas song that never was?

This is probably a thread that would have been ideal before Christmas, but following a month long assault on the cranium by Slade at al I thought it is just as relevant as we recover from our Christmas binging.

Every time I have ever heard "All Day Long" I have thought what a cracking Christmas tune it would have made. The growing cacophony of Hooky's bass and synthesised chimes towards the end make it sound like a Christmas tune.

Indeed, the words are perfect to describe the life of Jesus and his influence on mankind, and his betrayal by the excesses of modern life.

So is All Day Long the best ever Christmas song that never was? Was it indeed muted as a possible Xmas release? What other NO/JD songs could lay claim to the crown?

From memory the best ever Christmas showing for a NO/JD/Electronic/Monaco etc release was "Getting Away With It" #12(?) in 1989.

All Day Long is one of my fave NO tunes, truly lovely...the strings, the bass....even the guitar is nice. Doing it for Community2 (if i ever actually get round to it)

It was actually the first song I ever performed in public, singing and playing, I always used to sing it with the male personal pronoun's changed to female because of awful things that happenned to a young lady friend of mine when she was younger.

Yeah...not REALLY my first choice of xmas carol subjects

.....might be soon tho, since it'll shortly be a hanging offense to mention Christmas during the "year end spending festival" or whatever the fook it'll be called soon.

I always thought that: very Xmasy music. I think it would have made a great video - Hooky's end riff creates images of a snowy Christmas eve with Santa gliding through the night-sky on his sleigh. I don't think they'd have ever considered releasing it as an Xmas tune though - too much of a novelty and too uncool a thing for NO to do... Well in 1986 at least anyway!

In response to Spotnick, Some Distant Memory is a beautiful song, but not comparable - in terms of Xmas feel - to the sheer drive of Hooky's bass interwoven with the growing sound of 'Christmas' bells in ADL.

As for Jack H, Congrats my man! I'm just four off the magic century myself. It's not that we're new to this NO stuff, it's just some of us have taken longer to get the hang of this interweb wotsit.

FINE TIME was a GREAT christmas song (No.11 if memory serves) 'hey hey, sophisticated lady. . .' - perfect antidote to all the CRAPPPP that was out that christmas!

I hoped TURN was going to be released for xmas '05 - would have been a good christmas song IMO

The subject matter is certainly not festive but funnily enough musically it did seem Xmas-y to me when i was listening to the 'hood over the hols. Glad i'm not the only one to think it.
