Joy Division mentioned in The Curve... a movie.

I remember a while back there was a thread where JD/NO were mentioned by name in a movie, and not where a song was featured in the soundtrack.

Just saw this movie called "The Curve" starring the chick from Felicity and the guy from Alias. The premise of the movie is a bunch of college kids who try to get their roommate to commit suicide. That would give them an automatic 4.0 GPA.

They call a suicide hotline to see what the symptoms are for someone who is suicidal. "Does your roommate listen to depressing music?"

So the two friends go to a music store to plant depressing music around his desk. The cashier rings them up... "Susan Vega, The Cure, The Smiths... you know we have a sale on Joy Division also."

I remember that line. Can't really remember if the movie was good or not, but the line was pretty quality.

From my point of view its not.The lyrics senor curtis wrote just tell us about the frustrations in his life ,epilepsy etc. Thats my point of view anyway!

HAHAH... the movie was pure trash. That line was the high point since it made me laugh out loud. Also, there are parts of the movie score that sound exactly like the eerie guitar from "Exercise One" could be a direct sample if you ask me.

I find myself bouncing around to a lot of it as opposed to wallowing in self-pity. Never used it as a depression soundtrack, but I've known plenty that worshipped it as such. Knowing small details of what may have influenced a lyric or a string of songs is sometimes weird, but I can't say I actually find it as a downer.
