Joy Division instrumentals, i can live with that. actually that would be great.

A veiled dig at Barney? Sounds like no one's agreed on any concrete schedule for wrapping up the new album, touring, recording the new JD tracks, DJ-ing, side projects, etc. In typical fashion!

Business as usual in NO Land I'm with Ron being in favour of instrumental JD stuff for Control- esp. if Corbijn shoots it all in B & W like the Atmosphere vid.

JD instrumentals sound good.

Unfortunately, it sounds like there'll be no promotion for Turn which is a shame.

Thank God, they're going to be instrumental. I don't mind Bernard singing them live, but having someone come in and try to write lyrics and sing in Ian's "style" would have been a disaster.

Not a complete disaster. If the new "Joy Division" songs sounded anything like Movement, I'd be pickled tink.

YES. I trusted the band to do the right thing.. and in this case, it's to not have anyone sing the new Joy Division songs, even Barney. I'm really glad this is confirmed: new JD instrumental tracks. Now, the question is: what would the music of JD in 2006 sound like? My hopes are: it'd be more along the lines of the moody 'behind closed doors' type. Definitely not the happy stuff like Krafty and Jetstream which is distinctively more New Order'ish but I think that goes without saying.

I guess our first taste of the music would not come until 2007 since the Control movie is probably going to come out then?

I'm hoping for a new New Order album in 2006 and then new JD songs via the Control soundtrack in 2007. It'd be that much sweeter if we can get both this year.

Rerecording some old songs as instrumentals could be good. They shouldnt write new songs under their old name though, that would be silly.

Infact it's better off if Bernard doesn't sing. After all, that's not Joy Division is it? That's New Order. Instrumentals will feel far better and actually feel like they are new JD tracks and not just NO performing some old JD songs with Bernard's vocals. I think Phill shouldn't take part of the writing or recording process of the new songs, because that too, is not JD.

If this new material is as wonderful as it could be conceptually, then someone will have to drudge up one of my thoughts from years ago when I was suggesting that to sound fresh, the band had to make a major break with the past... abandon dance music, kill off the singer, do anything that made the audience feel something fresh about the music...

Hopefully they will get somewhere close to the idea of what Joy Division could be in 2006...

But why does it take a movie to make this band think differently?

AJW me thinks you have a real problem with the current New Order, well most of us do not. We love them. AS long as New Order contains the origianl three members, then it is New Order.

Just out of curiosity, when did you stop liking them? was it after Movement, or after Ceremony?

BTW things change get used to it. such is life.

Maybe this is where they were at musically anyways (re: instrumental JD) without the movie coming along. Could it indeed have been possible they've danced around and made up a number of istrumental/ uptakes on the old music just for their own satisfaction on how production was or wasn't to their liking?

I'd like to think that. I feel I got glimpses of that on some other recordings they've done that seemed to mix bits of that feel into their latter day music.

didn't i hear somewhere, that the tracks they left off wftsc were the ones that sounded too neworderish, and didn't they also promise us some more technique style tracks. if all this is true, then we may be in for a real treat come the next album.

well i think its a great idea that barney wont sing and they will do their roles as they used to, i always wanted to hear them do instrumental JD songs live, its basically them and the same thing, just no dancer and singer - thats the next best thing, wish theyd do the instrumentals live

How about NO LOVE LOST

No Love Lost is such a strong song because of its instruments that it'd make a great track. Though, I feel that way about a lot of JD songs - fantastic driving instruments that cause dancing.
