Most people seem to dis poor "Jetstream"... it's actually one of the catchier, better produced songs on the record... catchiest percussion on the record, nice hooky bass (at least on the original), nice pop/rock/indie structure with hooks, best use of keyboards on the record, the best use of guest or female vocals on any New Order record (not really much good competition there to be honest)

... but the chorus is such a blantantly amateur and lame forced attempt to make it a "pop" song that it makes me cringe... so does the chorus just ruin the song so damn much that cannot appreciate the good parts?

It's catchy, but too laid back. I like the Richard X remix better. It's what the song should have sounded like in the first place.

Jetstream is a good song.

Though its a very poor New Order song.

Its more like an Electronic song.

I like some of the mixes but I'm not that interested in the original version or the weak radio edit. On the other hand the Richard X 12" of Jetstream is great, I give that a spin regularly and it mixes in really well with long dance music playlists

From the minute I picked up the Jetstream singles in HMV (yeah I know, shame on me!) I knew there was something not quite right with it all. I couldn't get past the "Featuring Ana Matronic" sticker on the case, it was slightly sad to see them relying on a singer from a nauseating Elton John covers band to generate interest in their records. Matronic's not a particularly strong singer either.

Jetstream's the "token publicity song" and I wouldn't be surprised if that was the working title in the studio. A dumb pop song with a trendy guest singer. We all know it was probably Barney's baby and (from NME) that Hooky can't abide it.

Personally, I've never quite understood why some people have such a problem with it. There are far worse NO songs.

There are elements of the sound I like that show up better on the remixes. I was a bit pissed off that they included the song in their setlists last year, seemed like they were doing it to please Warners which is so not New order. Its catchy at times but not a great song for me.

One of my favorite songs. Real catchy. The song should be played in an elevator or whenever I'm on hold. Jetstream has a calming atmosphere to it.

I like it. Maybe without the 'scissor sister', but nevertheless......good one liners, nice bit of solo....I think it brought NO back to the rest of the listening public who had forgot they existed to be honest. :shrug:

i'm not that much of a fan of this song. it is much more of a madonna song, heck the instrumentaion even sounds very much like one of madonna's new songs (no i did not buy that album). i can dance to it though.

No need to have bought Madonna's album as Stuart Price, who produced Jetstream, produced the majority of hers which is probably why Jetstream has more than a passing similarity.

He's a decent dance producer but all his songs tend to have a similar sound. A similar kind of stomping drumbeat and he even reused the same 'explosion' sample from Guilt Is A Useless Emotion on Madonna's Sorry.

I think it's a pretty good song..sure not one of their best, but i take it for what it is.. simple pop music. I actually prefer the radio edit over the album version. It's a little more to the point, which is what a simple pop song should be. Furthermore, there is a version I heard on one of the NOOL podcasts that I like even more. It sounded stripped down like a demo version of some sort.

Its the Worst NO Song ever! Bar None! did they really need a push from Ana Matronic? the lyrics are really bad and the music isnt anything special either. just really dissapointed me as most of the new record did.

Didn't really care much for it until I got on a plane for the Oakland show...then I couldn't get it out of my head for the entire flight...

And I still like it...reminds me of that very trip...

ah well, I guess I'm just an old softy...

Never had any problem with it.. what I don't like about it is the female backing vocals, as usual.

I like Ana Matronic's part, but the backing vocals when Bernard sings... no fookin way, makes it CHEESY, just like World, Someone Like You and Liar.

But was it single material? I would have prefered Guilt. (Thank you Warner USA)

I think it's a great song. Though I really fell in love with the Richard X full version.

Especially the remixes, much better. The Richard X remix is what Jetstream should have been.

I think its a real howler - pop pap they call it. If Bernard wasnt singing and you heard it on the radio for the first (or fifth) time, I think most people on this list would turn it off. There are some really well written songs on WFTSC but this isnt one of them. :lame:
