Was listening to WFTSC (the track) and realized that Barney sings "To the wall and through the door".. and in "Loveless", he sings "A ten foot wall without a door"... :banghead:

Thought this was pretty neat.. any other similar lyrical metaphors that any others have caught?

"Just like the ocean or the sea..."

He mentions 'buying' love in Vanishing Point ("he buys love to sell tomorrow")and also in GIAUE ("real love can't be bought") So in the past he writes about someone buying it, but nowadays reckons that can't be done...maybe a shift in attitude steming from his personal life?

that's what I'm thinking too, Chris.. that these lyrics and metaphors from different songs and times are used differently can be signifying some shifts in attitude or feelings. In Loveless, Barney was singing of feeling that he felt he had no way in/out (wall with no doors).. but in WFTSC there is a way out, through the door.

Having read your comments, I just realized too that Barney sings of buying love also in Crystal. "Here comes love, it's like honey, You can't buy it with money"

so.. 3 songs so far, talking about buying/selling love.. Vanishing Point, Crystal, GIAUE

2 songs using the wall/door metaphor Loveless, WFTSC

Gonna go look for some more.. :read:

See the lyrics to Cries and Whispers.

There are also numerous references to fraternal relationships in NO songs (Perfect Kiss, for one).

The bridal imagery in Dreams Never End was good...seems to touch off on a couple of the themes in Ceremony.

what about 'get the message'

"I always thought of you as my brick wall built like an angel, six feet tall"... "And when you go away, I start to weep You're too expensive girl to keep Isn't it sweet?" "Take my independent point of view I've loosened my wallet, thanks to you Don't do me any favors"

Then it would be "travelling with no document"...

But indeed it's an interesting line. Maybe it does mean the oppsoite: travelling illegally with a fake document? Though Barney himself wouldn't need a fake passport.., ha.

I've always liked Barney's 'sea' lyrics... Further examples: Mesh "The antique sea" Cries And Whispers "Ship sails out to sea..." Leave Me Alone "On a thousand islands in the sea.../A sailor trod this ground..."
