I know all the bands who were involved in acid house (happy mondays, stone roses, charlatans uk...) but i dont exactly know the exact characteristics of how to be an "acid house" group. was it kind of just a time and place type deal. and would EMF and Jesus Jones count as acid house?

Wouldn't class any of the bands you mentioned as Acid House - although a few remixes had the "Acid" feel to em
The Mondays got labelled with Acid - because they were the one's who had the Acid;) 
The Acid scene was more of a "ilegal party music" ballearic beats - speeded up (can't think how to describe it properly!) more of an underground dance sound...Fine Time is the closest New Order came to it - so I'll describe Acid as fucked up noises
I'm sure someone else will explain this a little better;)
mix in house, 60's psychadelic sounds, beats, brit pop with a slight beatles influence for taste. stir in the punk ethic with some acid and bake it with some baggy clothes and smiley faces. vola! acid music a la stone roses, happy mondays and charlatons. best served in clubs and indie record stores.

The 'acid' scene as i understand it was me and my mates meeting up in the chemistry lab and daring each other to drink diluted Hydrochloric Acid. It's quite tingly on the tongue and makes you vomit a little. :\puke:

oh yeah, and luxaete is short for lux aeterna, a song by ligeti. i turned it into luxaete because it sounded a little more virile.

The term that would best describe the acts you mention would be 'indie dance'(dance remixes of more traditional indie flavoured rock was the order of the day circa1990) or 'baggy'(describes the clothes of said acts more than the music)
Acid house was from across the Atlantic originally, Chicago's 'House' Detroit's 'Techno' and New York's 'Garage' sounds were causing a splash on the dancefloors of Europe mainly in Britain. The experimental nature of the music involved beat matched D.J. sets and tracks created using sampled loops of mainly disco music and Roland 808 drum sounds in 4/4 time, oh and some drugs apparantly. 'Acid Trax' released under the guise of Phuturerecommended download was the result of an accidental marriage between the above pictured tool and D.J. Pierre. Originally intended to replace the bass player of a band, it became the staple sound of the burgeoning '(ware)house scene' the trademark acid squelch being far removed from it's intended purpose and was soon exported across the globe.

The simplicitiy of turning up the frequencies on a standard mixer + a stage (SHOOM!) + some talent (JUNIOR BOYS OWN) and RESULT. London dealt with it properly, way before Mancester and I can tell you it was a F****** giggle. Best song on a tab.... Some Cunt From Preston / The Happy Mondays.
The scene was more E driven than Acid. Coincidided with Ibiza taking off as a party venue, and E becoming available over here
