What to do in Manchester this weekend?

Didn't get to see much of the city back in Nov so I'm looking to do some sight-seeing this weekend..what should I check out?

Anything happening for Chinese New Year? Shopping centres? Museums?

Can anybody recommend a decent restaurant prior to drinking and gig? (somewhere near the venue, e.g. Mexican / Chinese?) Cheers.

There's a few good restaurants in The Printworks,but there's a nice Chinese up from there,along Cross street,past the Manchester Wheel and under glass bridge,on left hand side,facing Tom's Chop House.

China town on a Sunday , good restaurants etc , new year dragon sets off in parade from Manchester town hall and heads along a short route to China town , before lunchtime as a rule.

Shopping near Arena , Harvey Nic ,Selfridges , Royal Exchange and King street, further on Afflecks ( now as sad as present day carnaby street ,but wth a coupla gems hidden inside ), Northern quarter , Oldham street .

Richard Goodall gallery on Oldham street ,city Art gallery , the foyer of the Royal exchange theatre and the Whitworth art gallery on Oxford road ( some nice indie restaurants in the area and a shortish stroll from the curry mile ).A few bars and cafes show art some good , some bad and some indifferent .

After the demise of our local listings mag your better off checkin manchesteronline or buying a Manchester eve news.

if you like spanish or med food in general , el Rincon and Dimitri's are to be reccomended ,both in the Deansgate / Cstlefield area and near the Oxnoble pub which is a decnt place and also does a nic spot of tiffin .

I agree Gary Mac, China Town in MCR is great, George St in particular, good casino also

Yang Sing top notch.

For tapas El Rincon is great. Owned by some spanish guy who either played over there or knows some high up guys, loads of really good spanish footy memorabilia on the walls.

Check out the HUGE skyscraper that has shot up at the bottom of Deansgate. Will have the highest living space in Europe....apart from Bez's flat.

I had the Yang Sing recommended to me today, for a bit of Dim Sum for Sunday lunch!

Or Yum Cha, as the Aussies call it apparently.

I would suggest booking Al even if only for Dim sum , it gets packed and justifiably so , Mrs garyMac working for Kellog at the moment and it's where she'll invariably take anyone over from the States , it always gets a good reception .

However China town in general is good , not as big as London , but a good selection , some good Japanes and Korean too . Also near the village a Mongolian barbecue , best suited to a small to large party .

Indeed it is Digi , tried the casino but they hit us with the membership rule ( a few years back ), still fancy a go though , the china fellas love a punt .
