I remember reading that Barney was "enhancing his creativity" during the recording of PCL, so much so that he used to wear a white laboratory coat and beat the other three with a cane.

i remember reading about that.it was around 95-96 i think and barney was writing raise the pressure with johnny marr.he took loads of prozac and the makers of the programme ana;ysed the lyrics he wrote.they were trying to prove that all artists are fucked up basically.

I've got it on video somewhere... but havent been able to find it for ages :( seem to remember some of it was filmed at Barneys house(?) with him basically holding his head in his hands and half starting a sentance before leaving a dramatic pause, scratching his head and saying "actually...yea" (so nothing new their then!!)

While looking for that Prozac documentary I found a documentary i'd taped of tv about Factory records called "manchester so much to answer for" about the whole madchester scene but focusing mainly on NO. During the interviews the band seem quite narked about the others solo projects! (especially Steve) still it all turned out good for NO in the end :)

Yeah that documentary was before Raise the Pressure, it showed them rehearsing a few tunes that went on the album, and one of the b-sides (imitation of life I think). Was quite a decent program - the end result was Barney saying something along the lines that he didn't feel it enhanced his creativity, but made him more cheerful, and that Prozac should be added to the water supply

No no no.......the result of Barney's well-documented prozac intake is plainly obvious for all to see: he made a completely duff (Electronic) album. Now , if he took speed instead ....

once i started my own lengthy prozac "experiment," i went completely manic, and turned into a megalomaniac artist. i was having thousands of new ideas, which usually turned out to be rather lame. however, i must say, i wrote a very cool, very fucked up play after having prozac, ritalin, coffee, and no sleep, in about 20 minutes on the morning i was assigned to perform it in drama class. although this was the beginning of my dramatic emotional crash, this is one of the coolest things i have ever produced. the drama professor, however, hated it. she said it disturbed her deeply, and that i was a sick, sick puppy. fucking twat.
maybe barney didnt take enough.
