Inspired by today's bizarre "The Passion of Manchester" news story, what's your top 3 things NO-related that put your jaw on the floor and took a while to sink in and come to terms with.

Off the top of my head...

3. New Order going acid house for come back single "Fine Time". Hated it for a fortnight, then heard it in a club and it all made sense.

4. That metal video for "Touched By The Hand Of God". WTF!?! Watched through my fingers until I saw the funny side 4 years later.

5. "They've done a song with the England football team? With a football rap? Yeah, right!"

If I was older I guess my number 1 would be "Ian's done what?" but I didn't get into them until 1983. Victim of circumstances.

3. News of the original World in Motion release... although quite relieved when I heard it.

3. Signed to Qwest in the US; A nice surprise as to being able to find their records easily; I had no idea who might've been interested in them back then, but then if Motown had designs about The Fall......

Whats the problem with supporting people like Williams and the Chili's? They probably got paid a lot more money from doing a big support slot than playing the usual venues, didnt have to organise anything and could get away with doing a 11 song set and clearly not giving a fuck.

Would anyone else on here do different if they got a similar offer? I thought not.

True on those points, and count me as one of those who enjoys that gig for those reasons, it was just the news that they would be support that made me go , something I wouldn't have imagined them doing in the past.

Good coin though Shug, and a chance to play to what was it, 100k people? Plus they got to play a shorter set

1. Non-NO projects, such as the Hacienda, Dry etc. Given the fact that Factory was an indie label without the clout of the majors, even if they had a string of No.1 records and played to vast stadiums all over the world, they still wouldn’t have had the financial clout to pull off some of the schemes that Rob dreamt up and used their money on. The Hacienda was a huge risk even in 1982, they hadn’t come that far down the road to success, PC&L was only just out, they weren’t rich by any means. Sure, Manchester needed a real good venue, the way in which it was financed probably wasn’t the answer though.

2. The demise of Factory and the subsequent rancour. Inevitable I suppose, given Wilson’s unshakeable belief that the Mondays were the best thing since sliced bread (give him one thing, he’s loyal!!) and the way in which bands were given carte blanche to fritter cash away without delivering a product. While Factory would still have been in trouble (as in 1 above), advances to Revenge etc and failures to pay Electronic etc caused frictions between Hooky and Bernard that meant that so much of the band’s creativity throughout the 90s ended up as side project material rather than NO product. Just think how good an album would have been that contained the best of Electronic and Monaco, with Steve and Gillian on it…….

3. Bringing in guest musicians on Get Ready. A sales pitch, hiring “names” to see if that shifted a few units? A Warner ploy to see if the Order still had the popularity? Either way, they contributed nothing of merit to the record, yet still loomed very large in the publicity that surrounded its release. Thank God they dropped TMW and RTS pretty quickly from the gigs!

2. Armand van Crap Helden mix of BLT (not knowing who exactly was responsible for that one, BUT the artist has to approve the remix in order for it to be released...)
3. Performed a set at that school (ah, to be a kid again...)
