Melodica

I'm thinking of getting a melodica off Ebay. Aparently there are saprano and alto melodicas. I'd like to know what kind New Order uses, as thats the sound I want.

whichever is the easiest to play i reckon.i think barney used the same type depeche mode used on "everything counts" but i'm not sure which type that was.

When barney played the melodica onstage in Melbourne this year it looked to be about the same size as the soprano melodica i used to play as a kid, so my best bet would be that it was a soprano (high note) melodica. They are a shitload of fun to use to buy and enjoy

I know it's a late reply, but I was just searching "Melodica" posts myself... I play one, actually inspired a long while back, by reading that Barney plays a Hohner. (Or, at least used to, circa 1985, in Musician magazine's write up of them during the Low Life sessions.) Between the alto and soprano, the Soprano should give you all the high notes you need....

Barney started off playing a Hohner Soprano (the green one), and also acquired an alto one (red) a bit later on. He's now got a Hohner Piano 26 Melodica.

I've got two myself, as will be seen at any reconvenings of NOOL live in the near future !

Well you can hear Ian playing a melodica on the In a Lonely PLace Demo on Heart and Soul, i always thought it was in Joy Division first?

In the first part of the interview which the band did with new UK magazine, Jack, late last year, it is indeed explained that Ian first brought the melodica along and that the band 'inherited' it. Apparently, Ian got the inspiration from legendary reggae performer, Augustus Pablo.

Am I tonedeath? I always supposed that the first version of atmosphere - chance was the title then, was done with a melodica too. And the cover of Keith Hudsons' Turn the heater on, wasn't it a melodica? Dirk
