Get Soulseek. I made a four disc set of all their twelve inch singles and b-sides (minus all those dubs mixes), so if you get that program going, add and message the user name Re-Member. I do have dial-up, so be warned.

What's your user name on there? I go on pretty often, so if I have your user name, I can directly send you the file when I see that you are online.

I'm on slsk too. If any of you want DVD audio rips of 316 and 511, or various hard-to-find mixes, my username is Aries2012. Look me up.

the mix on Substance is about 27 seconds shorter than the original 12" vynyl version

Really? I used to have the Perfect Kiss 12", it's been ages since I've heard it but I don't remember it being any different from the version on Substance.

What part is taken out?

At 7:03 there is an extra section, with some excellent, haunting synth parts - you can hear it on 'The Kiss Of Death' at 5:18. God knows why it was clipped from 'Substance' (probably CD running time issues), but it's scandalous that the full thing has never come out on CD. It's a masterpiece - New Order at their best - and needs to be available in its original, full length version! Here's to a 2CD Low-life reissue at some point!

TPK uncut is one of the finest peices of music I've heard, yet outside of those who are really into New order it's probably not very well known, and the shabby LowLife is what usually gets played on compilations/documentaries. Annoying.

Why they never put to full length 12" on Low-life instead of that awful edit is beyond me... Just didn't make sense.

What annoys me the most about that edit is how at 2:23 you can hear like a split second of Barney singing the next set of vocals. There's like this annoying "Whe" noise would could have easily been cut out seeing how they managed to cut down Elegia to four minutes flawlessly.

I'll make sure to send it to you whenever I see you name pop up when I'm on. I downloaded it from someone who rippped it straight from vinyl, then went and edited out as many of the hissing and pops as I could, along with the full 12" versions of Subculture and Shellshock.

From a band that claims to take no bullshit from the music industry it's greatest creation always gets bitch slapped whenever it appears on comps and docs. Seems to me that they gave up on it after the video was shot except for playing it live.

for the longest time, especially for me, the albums weren't their strongest point..so i don't really mind them using the shorter edit there..

i only bought their music on 12" singles, (only recently have i gotten the shorter edits)...

i can see why they didn't put the full version on low-life, it would have overpowered the other tracks..(which is probably why they didn't use the 17min version of elegia either)...

i know that some versions of 'power corruption and lies' had 'blue monday' and the 'beach' on them, but i think that it interferes with the order of the album also..so for me, those tracks were meant to stand on their own..

i think 'the perfect kiss' is able to stand on its own...

by the way, on each of the boxed cassette versions, they included the full mix, along with kiss of death, and the perfect pit..

I uploaded it to Robgrillo, the other day .He has it now:)

Oh , and i kind of agree the full version may well have overpowered the rest of Low Life:shrug:

limited space. remember vinyl records, two times about 22 minutes. also from memory the perfect kiss replaced another song deemed not good enough. i think that song was lets go, but i could be wrong there.

Def Leppards Hysteria album is about 65 minutes long and that came out on vinyl. And other albums are quite long from roughly the same era, Genesis - Invisible Touch, Simple Minds - Alive and Kicking.

Does anyone else think Lets Go and Sooner than you think sound very similar? (especially original demo of Lets Go). Maybe thats why they dropped it at the time of Low-Life. Im sure there could be a good mix done overlapping elements of the two.

Or maybe its just me?:(

had the pleasure of hearing this out at the local bar on Saturday night. went up to the dj and gave him the thumbs up and totally knew it was going to be the substance edit... but still... the perfect kiss? being played out at the local gay bar. wonderful. granted the dj at this joint plays stuff like the buggles, anne clark and the cure - but it was the first time i heard it out loud and the song is majestic. an epic.

there are so many threads about this circumsized version that the substance edit is now actually a different version. its worth the search for the full lenght...

Hadn't heard the original version for ages, but played it earlier and I can see where you're coming from on the STYT thing... STYT is far superior, so that could explain why Let's Go got binned... Which is probably a good thing, cos it ain't great (in any version)...

Let's Go is fantastic. Much better than some of the dregs of New Order's back catalogue. Would rather a properly recorded version were on Low Life than that Perfect Kiss edit.

For those of you who don't care to get Soulseek working, I have a half-decent MP3 I'd be willing to share. Email address is in my profile, of course.
