My own remixes

Hello Everyone, Over the past few days I've made remixes of the following songs: This time of night, Every Little Counts, All Day Long, Way of Life, As it was(Live Tokyo), Sunrise(Live "We may be your black sheep remix"), and Subculture. I've just been using "MP3 Surgeon" and "Best Practice" and only had the original song as source material (I can't for the life of me figure out Acid Pro, although I'm working on it).

In my opinion each remix turned out better than the original. "This time of night" turned from unlistenable to very dark and dancy, Every Little Counts now sounds MAJESTIC, All Day Long has more of the word section (so lacking in the original), Way of Life is now listenable, Sunrise is now faster, aggressive, and inspirational ("we may be your blacksheep...") I'm going to start working on other songs of the older New Order material (their best material in my opinion), but I was wondering if anyone was interested in these remixes. I could post them on RapidShare.

By cutting 'n pasting a mp3 file you don't come up with a remix.

Ok, This Time Of Night is one of the best New Order tracks out there, how the hell do you get off calling it unlistenable? Do you even LIKE New Order? Just because you have Crystal and Blue Monday '88 on your iPod doesn't make you a fan.

You don't believe I'm a New Order fan? Listen, I have been a fan for literally decades, since "Brotherhood" came out. Although people think this record was weak, I really actually loved most of the songs on it. I'm not kinding when I say that New Orders early material was the best, their new stuff from Get Ready on lacks the quality of anger and depression, but still seeing hope and beauty in the world. I used to drive for hours listening to "Sooner than you think", "Bizarre Love Triangle", "ShellShock", "Thieves Like Us", "Temptation (Something Wild edit)". I bought up all their 12 inches and they didn't disappoint.

This new stuff lacks something present in the old stuff, although it can get close at times, the Dracula song does at times. I was a fan of the angry New Order, and I wish they would get angry again, to tell you the truth, because they'd probably make better music.

Sorry, maybe I was overstating my descriptions of the originals as "unlistenable", I think I just meant that these songs could have been much better. Thanks for the replys, I don't mean to be boasting or immodest, it's just that for years I have wanted to improve some of these songs, and now I've done it, and I like the result. I hope you do too. Just listened to This Time of Night. I'm struggling to understand how you 'made it listenable' or indeed changed anything at all, aside from abruptly cutting random segments. Don't rate it all and don't rate your attitude. So there you are!

I'm always open to any remix,and dare I say it,the Richard X remix of BLT actually surpasses the original,especially the ext. mix.Sorry Dean,can't get the link to work,but as mentioned on a couple of posts here,This Time Of Night is perfect.

Can never get Rapidshare links to work as I use a broadband router (and thus this masks the IP address)... I'm buggered if I'm going to fork out cash for a 'premium' account just because of this...

Segments from the original song was all I had to work with my friend. I am NOT a professional DJ. Yes, the remix is not perfect yet. It is a work in progress right now. What did you think of the other remixes?

I've put the songs on my Limewire folder. If you use Limewire, it's a peer to peer download site (like Napster used to be), just type NewOrder and Cutillar for you search criteria, and you should get the songs. I'll leave my computer on until probably 0700 Central Euro Time.

They're not 'good' remixes, the BPM's have been beefed up by the sound of it, but there's nothing added to the songs - after all, would it have hurt to try some new synth parts to overlay on the tracks, or add some extra guitar or reprogrammed drums. Best bet would've been to take the Acapella of "Confusion" and do something other than randomise the original.

OK, these can probably not be called "remixes", perhaps "re-arrangements", but I would rather listen to my version of "this time of night" than the original any day. In, fact, I would rather listen to my versions of all the songs there, instead of the orignals. That was my point to begin with.

There is plenty of excellent New Order music out there. There was just a few that I thought weren't given the proper "attention" and could have been much better, especially on the "Brotherhood" record.

I agree with not liking the production on Brotherhood, compared with their other albums. For me its a bit muddled and messy and there didnt seem to be a clear vision or central control by anybody. Thats not to say that I dont enjoy the album though and I think it has some great tracks.

However if I were to be as bold as to say I prefere my versions I know it couldnt be done by mearly rearranging them. It would be done by accessing the original recordings, varying each track levels, taking out certain instrument tracks and adding additioning tracks.

For instance, it might be interesting to change Way of Life into a more poppy version, making the acoustic guitar louder and the bass lower in the mix, adding more keyboard, etc.

I would be interested in hearing your versions and I look forward to getting my limewire working again to access them. Ill listen with an open mind (and ear).
