i loved three lions when it was originally done for euro '96. the '98 world cup version ('we still believe') was a shadow of the former. and vindaloo was fun but not particularly memorable.

Dancing to WIM at The Hacienda during Italia 90 has got to be a personal NO highlight. The whole place went crazy!

Dancing to it in sh*tty southern Kent clubs wasnt a highlight (but i still remember it). And what a timeless pop record it is. Sublime.
It's a classic moment; truly a memorable song which was spot-on for the World Cup. I remember hearing it for the first time on Radio Fab FM and thinking that the Order had truly cracked it this time. Singing it at Reading with that oaf Allen on the stage was just the business. I apologise to the many followers around the world but to be in England in the summertime when they sung that...it was just perfect symmetry.
Someone once remarked to me that Sunny Afternoon by the Kinks held the same place in his affections as that was number one the week we won the World Cup in '66. Times, places and memories...
well what can i say it is the only new order i cant stand ( a very good tune though) but being a ireland fan i dont like it lol lol ,i was gutted at glasto last year when they finished whith that gutted had my my mates jumping on me when it was played i just wanted them to finish with anything but that tune ah well

Absolutely agree. I was 16 at the time, discovering girls, beer and the Manchester nightlife. Suddenly the best fookin band in the world record the World Cup tune for England, it goes to no. 1 and we reach the semis against all the odds. And the weather was amazingly hot. So what Dad if you had the swinging sixties? I had 1990 and it was fookin perfect!
WIM is absolutely perfect because as Chem says, "...Times, places and memories..." I was there and for that I am eternally grateful.

That's just FANTASTIC ! a don't give a toss what some might argue 'cos back then, not only did NewOrder delivered us lot with a unique collection of unalterable GEMS but they did score high with WIM. The only football song that's heart pounding and which could be read/heard on multiple levels. a perfect match (as always).

I do have a point. Pity the poor PSBs. They scored a no.1 on the Network Chart with Go West, but only managed a no.2 on the official chart. What a pisser!
