Brixton - it's very lively and cosmopolitan.

Failing that, try Camden. It's cheaper than the three places you mentioned.

There's a Hilton in Islington which is a mere stone's throw away from Finsbury Park. And as a resident of the borough I can vouch for the entertainment and of course the bar that sells NO/JD cocktails.

That was the point I was making Grig - Camden (and Islington for that matter) is a lot closer to Finsbury Park than the three places you mentioned! :) So I'm not that far off wrong in my suggestion, am I? :D

Depends how much money you got. You've got to be pretty minted to stay in any of those locations - though they are pretty nice. Brixton .

Victoria's pretty good if thats where youre gonna be getting into - loads of hotels etc - bit soulless mind you I'd take Mickey Way's advice and actually stay round the Finsbury park area - easy access to the centre of London, not too expensive and of course very covenient for the 'big day'

I'd just like to take this opportunity to say that this will be the first ever time i have visited our nations capital....

Depends what youre comparing it to Major. If Stafford, then yes it is very good. Put it this way, I like it...well most of it.

It's a bit dead where you'll be stopping - Gray's Inn Road - but you're dead central for everything, just a stone's throw from Oxford Street, and Soho, and suchlike.

More importantly, only 2 stops from Fins-bree Park on the tube.

I work in Islington, a mere 5mins walk from there. Kings Cross is a bit grim itself but As Allen said your 3 stops on the victoria line from Oxford Circus, and a couple of stops on the Northern line from Camden which has got some quite funky bars and a world famous market selling everything (and I mean everything!!) And of course your right near Farringdon and the City which is packed full of trendy bars and pubs (unfortunatly full of suits as well though!)

Finsbury Park will be a doddle to get to though ;)

It'll be fine - your dead central as pointed out - it's just Kings Cross itself is a bit rank - but your only 15 mins from many a nice place, such as Camden, Regents Park, Leicester Square&Covent Garden, Hyde/Green Park, Chelsea, Kensington and Westminster. Best thing to do is when you get over here get a weeks travel card (means you can travel on any bus/underound), and make the effort to get to know the underground system, in which case you'll have loads to see and do - and not necessarily at any cost either.

Jeff how much are they charging? Just in case I didn't moan about it enough at the time, my stay in the Julius Caeser in Bayswater was akin to renting a room of one of the old style families in Eastenders, most likely the Fowlers, especially when you catch it on UK Gold. The plumbing was noisy and water was cold. It looks quite smart on their web-site as well.

£59 I was with the missus and I paid. She's moaning about not being dragged along to Finsbury Park one minute the next it's shall we make a week of it. I've only been to London about 20 times why would I want to spend another week there. I could probably get to Barcelona for the same money.

it's a bit out the way as far as London goes - but it only 5 stops down the northern line to finsbury park

I think I stayed there(Muswell Hill) for Alexander Palace. I booked that one from Tourist Information, can't remember how much it was but it was just a house, not a guest house if you see what I mean, no locks on the doors. Landlady's daughter was a goddess though, form Crete I think.

theres plenty of nice youth hostels round my way - if you don't mind sharing a bunk bed with a stranger
