Both are great, but the Brotherhood version's a bit light for me, although I really like the bass intro. The Substance version's end, though, it kind of anticlimactic, I think.
How about the video version? That's a great edit.
Have never really thought about it - and thinking about it now, I suppose I don't really have a favourite...

Voted for the Brotherhood one, although in reality it's the live versions from 1986 and 1987 with Barney strutting his funky chords at the end with the rest of the instrumentalists. Somewhere around 1989 they ditched Barney's guitar and added more repetition of the chorus to the end in order to make it more sing-a-longey. After 1993 they kicked out the Brotherhood arrangement altogether and then it became even more of a karaoke live.

i never could stand that version. something about it just really got on my nerves. thy used to play it ad nauseam on the radio back in 1998 or so.

More like 1993. I had just purchased Sky TV and it was on 'heavy rotation' on MTV.

Anyone heard fellow Aussies Even As We Speak's version of BLT - imo much better than Frente!'s - short, sweet and to the point (it only last about 1 min 30 secs)... Long deleted but probably easily Soulseekable...

um , the Shep Pettibone mix is the version on Substance.
that mix would have been perfect if it had Hooky's bass growl at the end, like on the 7" mix
the Stephen Hague mix is possibly my favourite.
And there's also a mix of the 7" with the bass sequencer lopped off at the start.It starts straight off with the drums.Like the Hague mix does

i just looked it up. it was released in 1994 in both the UK and the US. i swear i was living in scotland at the time of its release, but i guess it was NYC.

the hague mix...another signature sound for US clubs....if you were a clubber at the time, it was EVERYWHERE. I was addicted to the sounds they created for it.
it was SO LOUD...it just BOOOOOMED!!!
the album version, though, still gets alot of radio play here in south florida...and, like, in the pop musak at the GAP and stuff
The Shep Pettibone version (Substance) is hyped a bit too much IMO. It's a good mix and all that but particularly live the intro is sounding a bit flat and dated these days. The Brotherhood arrangement they performed pre-1998 worked much better live I thought; shorter with more of a punch 
My BLT of choice would be the Stephen Hague remix from the "Married To The Mob" soundtrack. It's basically the same as (the best of)'s 94 mix but has an extra vocal melody from Barney after the first chorus and a few other minor differences.
It's definitely the best version of the song to my ears and thanks to Hague's production has aged far better than both the Substance and Brotherhood versions.
My £0.02 anyway.
The extended dance mix on Substance does it for me. For a NO song, the longer the better. The incorporation of the electronic sounds really stands out.

Its got Barney going "do da doo da doodle do, do do do do do da doodle do" just before the 2nd verse. Its got the growling base at the end followed by another chorus. Its quite similar to the Hague 94 mix but also has my favourite ending, just eh chime notes played out to fade.

I find the live version of this just sooooooooooo disapointing. The intro suggests it's going to go right off into a 4/4 electro stomp, then as Barney comes in, it just falls flat. Piss poor.
Hague mix for me, but Richard X's mix is nice.
There's no question that the track Bizarre Love Triangle is very much a euphoric piece of vocal music, but many - like myself - would be uneasy about praising it as a song.
There is only one 3-chord phrase to the whole melodic structure, and so many will claim that it cannot be classified as a supreme synth-rock anthem, let alone classic rock.
This is what I'm hoping some remixers will eventually attempt to rectify. This may well mean extending the track's length beyond seven minutes, but to answer the question, I prefer Shep Pettibone's remix simply becuase it's many assets disguise the one-dimensional chord phrase best. But to achieve this in the way the Bizarre Love Triangle '94 edit does on the ? (the best of) compilation would sound great.
Thought this one was a bit of a no-brainer, so gobsmacked to see Substance is winning this.
Of all New Order's tracks think this one's the track that's gone down the most in my estimation over the years. Always had an edge to it. Now it's just vapid shite live, sorry.
