Just been reading the Elegia thread and it's interesting that so many dislike this song. I suspect it's the old 'Joy Division fans like Movement best' syndrome again. To me, Elegia is more like the solemn beauty of the Doubts Even Here, Decades, In A Lonely Place side of the band which I much prefer to the dancey/pop 'ooh, New Order, they're like Erasure and the Pet Shop Boys aren't they' songs. It's actually amazing how differently one band can be perceived. To me New Order will always be a post-punk experimental band grouped alongside the likes of PIL, Wire, Josef K, etc. Where as other see them as natural allies of the Pet Shop Boys. Weird.

PSB comparisons I can accept (but even then only because of Republic) but not Erasure. If anyone ever suggests to you again they're like Erasure kick them in the head very hard.

i'd agree that they're unique. they've got a bunch of different sides to them, and i have to say that i'm probably a bit of a weirdo because i like most of them.
...well, except for most of what's on Republic, but hey. _O_ "Regret" is still one of the most brilliant songs ever, period. so even that album had its moments.
my head is someplace where the experimental and the dancey-poppy can coexist peacefully, and i like different things about each...and particularly appreciate the fact that one band can encompass them all. it makes me very, very happy, in fact.

Erasure. Now there's a fooking great excuse for making possession of/singing along to ABBA records illegal. Shite shite band too (ABBA and Erasure that is). Andy Bell's gutless bleatings make early Depeche Mode sound like Stravinsky in comparison. Nuff said.

Wait!! Don't hurt me!! The only reason was because the other act they were playing with was great Sheffield 80's band Heaven 17. So that just about makes up for it!
