Hello everyone,

On May 15th, the company from which I'm working is moving to a new place.. in fact we're merging with another company.

Most of you are aware that NewOrderOnline is hosted by the company I work for since last July, when we launched v2.0 for the release of Get Ready and tour.

The "problem" is that this site is a little too popular, and it takes a lot of bandwidth on the T1 line here, and moving to another place means that the company will be bigger and that there will be less bandwidth available.

So I've been asked to either move the site, or manage to discrease the amount of bandwidth to a "normal pace"..

What this means? I won't be moving the site to another provider, I simply don't want to pay for an ASP hosting, which is expensive compared to the hosting I had before moving the site.. so my other option is either close the site, or try to discrease the use of bandwidth.

What I'll do? I don't have a choice really, but the multimedia section will sure be the first cut on this site, I will probably have to keep the most recent files, and try to find a space to host the others...

So well, I need your input on this, I sure hope this won't make the site popularity drop and everything.. my wish is to keep this site opened, and I will do all I can for that.

Thank you for reading.

I think that the priority should be to keep this forum and the news sections open.

To be honest, I've bookmarked the Forums and look at little else on this site.

Only time I ever see the News is when I 'log out' if I've been using someone else's PC. And, let's face it, most of the news appears here first anyways.

If you can't keep everything on, Nic, please at least keep the Forums open. Makes the working a day a lot easier....

I agree.

I am a very new member but I feel that what works well with this site already is this forum and the news page as I think looking at the other sites this one is the most current and newsbreaking which I think is extremely important. The fan club format is very neat but the multimedia, history and literature I think you can lose as this can be sought from other sites. With the forum topics perhaps you could close topics sooner to save as well on valued space..?

Don't know. Computers aren't one of my strongpoints. Got to keep it going though! It is a very good site.

Aye - I'll agree with the others - Forum and News pages definitely priority Nico;)

Forum and news pages a must. Set a deadline for the disbanding of multimedia, and anyone who wants to download items can do before that date.

Yea forums and latest news are the heart&soul of neworderonline.

Also be nice to keep the lyrics pages as well :) (i imagine there not to large what with them being flat text content)

All said and done your doing a terrific job of keeping the site in 'order' Nic!!

can't agree more...the forums are great, the news is a must, and deadline to download should be considered, and is very nice of you to ask our opinions

The forum is a must stay, it's been a lifeline for a long time now and I can't imagine not being able to login to see what everyone is up to !

There's big space savings to be had on the live history pages though - maybe a format nearer the WaterRat (am I allowed to say that on here?)style would save a lot of bandwidth.

If there's anything I can host, please let me know. Happy to help if possible.

Yeah - me too - count me in on that one: Forum and News section to stay : the art and literature stuff is too extraneous really. The multimedia stuff could be cut down or farmed out / "sold" to another ISP possibly?

:cool2: :cool2:

Dunno if I can add to what's been said here - news and forum are probably the ones worth keeping. With things like Audiogalaxy around, the Audio archives could get the chop. Md

One more vote for the forums. I also check the news and history from time to time. Agree that a lot of the multimedia could easily go, as long as NOonliners around the world provide links for TV appearances, etc. as they happen for the benefit of us all. Don't think I would've ever seen the performance on Jools Holland if it hadn't been linked here

Don't worry, the news and the forum are "there to stay".. (too easy word game)

As for the multimedia, I will probably leave some excluvities for the members only, and will try to find another hosting place for those.

Spotnik , Every time you update the news page login screeny thing (which you have just done) i lose my connection and have to re-boot my pc, if this doesn't stop i shall have to leave this site and grovel at the feet of the fat Turk :nono:

Only joking

Site is tops n just keep the forums

I agree with everyone, but I want to add one more thing. Keep the Tours and concerts section. It nice to see what New Order have done in each show.

Sure, keep it, but change the format so you can see a whole tour's set lists on a single page rather than having to open a new page for each show. Massive space savings there!

I gotta admit, with no real way to access the Real Media since at least October, I've been focusing my time and energy on the forum while visiting, so the forum should stay. The news section is a must, but I also love the articles section (in fact I plan to read some or all of them one day!), so from my point of view, the multimedia is expendable.

i like the mulitmedia, it's one of the best around. but if you must, just cut it down to the very rare stuff. i mean, we can access the crystal video everywhere else right? um, keep the news, forum and the articles section. i think the discocraphy and the history stuff we know, so that's pretty expendible.

I find it quite amusing that I have to check my own forums sometimes to get news.. but what can I say :D

Actually, I never tought this would get more popular than the Ceremony Mailing List, which is dying...!

is there a chance you could make all of the audio downloadable like a week before you get rid of it? Maybe make it available to members only so you don't get any old raggamuffin d/l ing? just a suggestion.

I agree with everyone here. I am mostly on the forum when I come here but I also like to read the news. You provide very good updates on the band and it is very appreciated.

As for the multimedia, it is true that anyone can download the songs from a place like Audiogalaxy so if you just keep the discography everything should be ok. Maybe you can make our profiles pictureless (just a suggestion.) I know that pics take up more space than text.

I know you want to make your site with the most information, but what can you do? We don't expect you to fork out all of this $$ just to keep us happy. As you can see we are happy already! :)

Thanks Nic!!!

Is there a way perhaps to save the multimedia by making a seperate site, kind of a "New Order multimedia webpage" that still has the stuff from this site, but under a different name? I was just thinking about that, I don't know how feasible an option it might be however. I'm not even sure if such a thing would be possible. Oh well, just a thought....

If the problem is the multimedia, remove it but it's a shame because like someone said, there are things that people from other countries can see just here. It is dificult to live without the mp3s already but what can we do?

But the truth is that the Record Label should adopt this site and support it. I'll send a mail to them regarding this and I suggest that everyone else do the same. It's fucking amazing that we don't have a place like this site supported by them. We're fans and we should be treated as we deserve (mutimedia, forums, concerts, news, etc...). Even if it was paid it has to be available!

It's all about webspace - multimedia files take up bags of space, and most sites simply cannot host them as it costs a fortune to get the necessary space. We've been very lucky that Nic and Seb were able to use some space on their business's webspace to build us this site. The only real way round it is for someone to pay for hosting space, then we could shift all the multimedia elsewhere. Guess nobody loves them that much that they will pay for a site !

Get rid of the Multimedia pages and keep the rest.
