NEW ORDER...SUPPORT BAND!!!

IT SEEMS STRANGE THINKING ABOUT NEW ORDER AS A SUPPORT BAND..AS IN EARLIER THREAD ABOUT THE ROBBIE WILLIAMS GIG IN GERMANY...HAVE ANY OF YOU GUYS SEEN THEM AS "SUPPORT BAND"...I SAW THEM ON TWO TRIPLE HEADERS, ONE AT LIVERPOOL ROYAL COURT WITH THE FALL AND THE SMITHS, NEW ORDER CAME ON FIRST...AND THE OTHER AT SHEFFIELD CITY HALL WHEN AMAZINGLY THEY AGAIN CAME ON FIRST TO BE FOLLOWED BY BILLY BRAGG AND THEN ABC...THINK ABOUT IT GETTING ALL WORKED UP ABOUT WATCHING NEW ORDER AND THEN HAVING TO SIT THROUGH A LOAD OF DRIVEL...ANYONE ELSE GOT ANY EXPERIENCES??

They asked to come on first at the Royal Court......they consider their audience's feelings, and can you imagine the sort of state half the crowd would be in after 45 minutes of MES ranting then 45 minutes of Morrissey poncing and wailing ?

I aint sure - but i loved the way they waltzed into Reading in 89, 93 and again in 98 headlining the festivals. Especially 98 as they hadnt done an album since Republic yet still stole the limelight of the festival and created such a good performance that it merited a dvd release!!

Jimmy Somerville had left them by then and Pete Burns, god forbid, was singing lead vocals if I remember correctly. We stayed about 30 seconds into their first song.

Did Sandie Shaw also play that night as well?

Yep, it was a cracking gig nonetheless, I think they'd just come back from a big tour of the states.

Yeah, and i looked back after NO had been on and Garbage were playing to a crowd of about 200 people.
