JD/NO emo!?!?!??!!!?!?!??!!?

In this week's Kerrang, the lead singer of Panic At The Disco said he loved BLT.

And Fall Out Boy have covered LWTUA.

i've heard fall out boy's cover; it's been out for a few years and i don't think it's that bad. probably their best effort (considering the rest of their stuff is pretty crap).

No way an emo band should cover NO/JD. My classmates are now crazy for Fall Out Boy. I can't stand them. An acquaintance of mine decided to play FOB loud on the stereo; couldn't listen to NO on the computer so I had to listen to my band with headphones.

Sure it's your fault they've covered them.

FOB is the stupidest phenomenon to come into my generation and the who emo movement is plaguing me. I have to leave the room or use headphones to listen to MY bands without competing the emo-crazed, screaming girls.

Fall Out Boy's singer mentioned Appetite For Destruction as one of those albums he buys over and over again when on the road. That sucks. That's the essential album for him? And they're supposed to be a 'punk' band of sorts...LAME.

I'd far prefer it if those bands would have liked songs that were.. oh, I dunno, not obvious picks. It's easy to say a hit song is your favorite and rally off that as a point of interest to sell your next album. I'd like more bands who are influenced the the actual music and not just the one song to.. come out with more original choices for their favorite.

Because, after looking through my collection of NO/JD cover songs.. rare's the one that's not LWTUA or TF/BLT/BM.

I think the Afghan Whigs did it best saying they didn't care if anyone else hated NO, they were still going to play the song. The overwhelming lack of acknowledgement in the audience in 94 was just poetic. And then they ripped into Regret. (Which, okay, was sort of like the BM of the time. )

I remember a friend of mine who dj'ed clubs here in town saying that if one more pre-teen emo kid requested BLT or BM he was going to frisbee-guillotine them with the 12".

And I will admit the one or two acquaintances I know who are into that whole scene... it annoys me to no end when they are all "JD JD JD" and completely ignore NO. Because they are the same ones who will be all "JD identifies with my sadness, I must cut to Ian's voice!" BS, and it's stupid, really.

Excellent point. Another friend of mine refuses to listen to NO, because he thinks they 'tainted' the legacy of JD.

Who cares? Proves anybody can like New Order and Joy Division, and you could never know by looking at them. Besides what the hell is "Emo"? I heard they were just stupid pseudo-punk bands popular amongst 12 year old children....

Wankers, the lot of them... Emo-Wankers, to boot... I've always thought what a shit 'label' Emo was - like any other music isn't emotional... And yes, Rod Hull did fall from his roof to his death while trying to move his TV aerial... I personally would prefer Emu to cover LWTUA... At least he has some credibility...

i asked my 15-year-old students last year what 'emo' was exactly. they explained it to me, but i still don't get it. anyway, most of them thought it was crap, whatever it is.

Emo is like pop-punk like FOB, Ataris, Avril Lavigne, etc. Emo is shallow.

I cant come to grips what emo is either. It's those whiny, horrible corporate-punk bands who pretend to be so angst-ridden to appeal to little kids, it's so obviously insincere and fake.

But I've heard other bands like Modest Mouse, Sebadoh and YES! even JD/NO called 'emo' so I just dont know anymore...

I think 'emo' was just a general term for 'alternative' for the present and then record companies ran with it and started assembling their little whiny bitch bands like Good Charolette - "Cause I'm just a kid/ And life is a nightmare/ waaaahh!!"
