Is there one that provides a detailed assessment and investigation of the recording sessions?

nothing new to my knowledge. just how detailed do you want it. an ideal for living was quite good, but that only goes as far as 1983.

I'm not sure what you mean by investigating/assessing the recording sessions, so I can't say.

Talking of books, that new one, "The Making of Unknown Pleasures" by Jake Kennedy, is rubbish.

Thanks - I'll remove it from my birthday list then! :thumb: :)

It's basically got one or two pictures I hadn't seen before - I can upload them if there's interest - and interviews with Marc Riley (Fall bassist), Mick Middles (who seems to have made a living talking about JD), and various bits and bobs, but it has nothing you couldn't find out from the various books/magazine articles already out there. For a book titled "The Making of Unknown Pleasures", it is nothing of the sort.

I mean who played what, who wrote what, how many takes were done of what...unless it is all still speculation.

true faith: an armchair guide to new order is probably the best you're going to get. it's mostly about gigs, but might have what you're looking for.

Can you still get True Faith? Is it still in print - like, able to be ordered from a bookstore? Is it worth the trouble?

True Faith only came out last year, and can be found easily in the likes of hmv and virgin. Not bad either, but the ultimate book for me is "Dreams Never End"
