Hiya sports fans.
just bought the above cd and gave it a whirl.
what a load of complete and utter bollocks! ,this has to be one of the worst cd's i have ever purchased in my entire life!
Theres only a couple of decent tracks on there!
Being a hac regular miself,surely they could have picked better trax than these,bitterly dissapointed!
Well, I think it's a corker... some good old versions of stuff that was later rehashed.
I wouldn't advise that the casual dance music fan buys it, but for anyone with a deeper interest in dance music it's well worth a flutter.
Got some nice intros from Gretton, Hannett, Pickering et al as well...
My friend bought it two weeks ago and also hated it, happily for me she's given it to me and i think it's great - saves me money!
Not bought this yet but just looked up the running order.
Some classics in there: Strings of Life, You've got the Love, Al Naafyish, Rockers Revenge but then WTF have those two latter tracks got to do with the Hac, as people probably remember it, as a mecca for rave culture?!
And some tracks must be in there on name alone - Mondays, Order, T-Coy, Beat Club, and the slowest Orbital track ever (beautiful but not one for yer klubs).
Looks hits and miss. I'll still buy it.
That original Hacienda thing was heaps better, where it at least grouped the records by year.

erm- shouldn't you have looked at the track listing before purchasing? Not got it yet but certainly loads of hacienda classics on it as well as other gems. Most were definitely played at the hac at one time or another - take it from one who lived there most weekends. Could it just be that some of us have outgrown this type of music?
I think it's pretty good, but most (if not all) of the tunes have been on a trillion compilations before. Agree that the 15 years of the Hacienda was much better - this 3 CD thing more or less overlooks the mid 90s US/UK house/garage (Murk, Mood II Swing, MK, Morales,MAW, Knuckles, Basement Jaxx, Farley & Heller, X Press 2 & various guises, Joey Negro & various guises etc) for which the club was famous at that time in favour of older and slightly cheesier tunes in some cases (Bassheads - Is there anybody...) Having said that, this golden period of house music coincided with the Hacienda's decline and clsoure so that could explain that to some degree.
Would have been nice to have featured a few more obscure tunes in there from the early days but as people have said - a tracklisting is provided, so have a look before you buy.

Didnt have the chance to have a look at the track listings as i was walking round asda and it was chocker. As for the comment of "outgrowing" the music,i have been listening to house/trance/techno music since it first came out,and incifdently i had over 500 house/trance/techno lps and 12 inches (until a fire at my parents house put paid to that!)until 1992,in fact i still collect the finest house/trance music out their at the minute,namely the global underground series.
I suppose the original point i was trying to make was that as the cd was being "endorsed" by hooky,park and pickering then i would have expected a little better. Admittedly their are a few good uns on their,humanoid and voodoo ray to name but a few but for my personal choice the rest are pants!
Well, I have this CD and I haven't listened to it yet because I know I won't like it.
I'm not stupid, I know what type of music is on there... it's like Back To Mine, I listened to it once and that's it...
I'll stick to music they do, not the music they like, because obviously I don't have the same musical tastes as them.
Ok, alot of people here are complaining about this compilation, could you please then recommend a good comprehensive Hacienda compilation?
I've never been to Hacienda, so it's hard for me to judge the tracklisting.

Viva Hacienda was possibly better than this offering (and I'm just judging this one from the tracklisting alone). At least it had the sense to group things chronologically.
How do you judge a club by which tracks are played though? The likes of Voodoo Ray are perhaps always associated with Mancland and the fact you've got Manchester artists here like the Monday and Order, but every one of these tracks would've been played up and down the country anyways.

As for a relation between songs and a club - who defines the sonic policy and enviroment of a club - club's own DJs - so they may prefer some tracks over other and hence play them more often. I don't know... maybe Hacienda was just a dance club, after all?

The hac on a sat will be forever remembered for playing hallelujah- it still gives me a smile thinkig about it. And Tcoy is a classic.
This cd concentrates on late 80s early 90s - not the mid period when the hac was plagued with troubles of various kinds
Yeah, I'm from the US but I always associate that 'Hallelujah' remix with my idea of what a UK club in 1990 would be like.
My girlfriend laughs so hard when I do the dance the guy in '24 Hour Party People' does when they play 'Hallelujah' in the Hacienda. :)
On the strength of this thread I've been mostly playing Viva Hacienda this evening.

I've got this coming to me (the set) but I already know I prefer the Viva Hac set - mainly because what was being played on that was also being spun in clubs here... and it's the sort of stuff I regularly heard on the "afterparty" broadcasts from 1-4am here in town.
I don't know many other primary and middle school age kids who sat around listening to this sort of music at late hours. 
No wonder I'm so odd. So glad I grew up in a large metropolis and got exposed to good music!

Thanks for the info. I'm slightly disappointed then. I rarely enjoy DJ mixes that try to span so much time. There's always something disjointed about them, either stylistically or even in my memory.

I just burnt my own history of dance music CD's - I thought it would be 10 discs... in the end it was 35!?!

similar idea. but is compiled/ chosen up by Peter Hook. There are a couple of articles threaded somewhere around here. can't see them right-off maybe in Music For Pleasure, or back in the Digital Republic. .
