Well, NO NO in the VH1 top 100 lyric poll, which is a travesty to say the least...

The complete list:

http://www.mtv.co.uk/mtvuk/news/article.jhtml;jsessionid=BCIHOVVYJEGSZQFIAIHSFE4AVABBAIV0?articleId=65133529

Although some saner people chipped in their views to the BBC's have your say:

The top five lyrics in the VH1 poll were:

  1. U2 - One. "One life, with each other, sisters, brothers."

  2. The Smiths - How Soon is Now? "So you go, and you stand on your own, and you leave on your own, and you go home, and you cry, and you want to die."

  3. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit. "I feel stupid and contagious, here we are now, entertain us."

  4. Bob Marley - Redemption Song. "Emancipate yourselves from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our minds, have no fear for atomic energy, 'cause none of them can stop the time."

  5. Coldplay - Yellow. "Look at the stars, look how they shine for you."

No doubt the inclusion of Coldplay and U2 will irk many a NOOLer... but were people really voting for the lyric... or the song...?

P.S. Which NO songs would you have liked to have seen in here?

I am still puzzled as to how U2 is #1.

What a load of rubbish - how is this nursery rhyme the 5th best lyric ever?

You know I've met a lot of cool chicks But I've never met a girl with all her own teeth That's why I love you babe

Now that's more like it.

If you believe in VH1 polls you might as well believe in fairies.

Iggy Pop's "The Passenger"? I swear there's only two lines in it: I'm the passenger, I ride through the city tonight and "na, na, na, na, na-na na"

Still a cracking song.

Temptation, Blue Monday, True Faith, and the songs on Technique deserve to be on the list.

Of course, all of them have incredibly profound lyrics.....

Which NO songs would you have liked to have seen in here?

I got a cock it looks like the M1. It's long and think and has a white line down it.

I agree that the Coldplay lyric is hardly worthy of inclusion! And Arctic Monkeys?? :nonono:

My NO vote would go for "Every time I see you falling, I get down on my knees and pray," or possibly "Oh, it dies so quickly, it grows so slowly, but when it dies, it dies for good."

And maybe the "World in Motion" rap. Sorry, couldn't resist!

The fact that Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" was ranked higher than the Beatles' "A Day in the Life" makes me want to puke. Actually, the fact that Christina Aguilera would make the Top 100,000 of any lyrics poll makes me ill.

I have to remind myself that video music channels know shite (and don't even show videos for that matter).:banghead:

What a load of crap. I can understand no NO, although "Sooner than You think" or "Dream attack" could be a contender, but no Smashing Pumpkins? No Cure? No Pet Shop Boys? And why is Christina Aguilera on there? She doesn't even write her lyrics.

The ridiculous results of yet another stupid poll don't surprise me at all-consider the source. A US VH-1 poll would look even worse. I'm shocked that Joy Division even made it. I'd put Dream Attack or perhaps Guilty Partner ("I couldn't take this from no other You're not being cool with me 'Cause I always know you'll come back to me Yes, you'll come back to me 'Cause I always know What it takes to make you my lover") Plenty of other NO (and other) songs to chose from and all too many choices as to what to eliminate. It could have been worse though, at least the Smiths made it three times and the Beatles six times (though too low).
