New songs to be played live this summer?

What are the chances they'll be airing any of the leftover WFTSC tunes at the live dates this summer?

Very unlikely i would have thought. I've no great desire to hear any of the remaining songs anyhow to be honest. WFTSC and Turn, while being my favourite songs on the album, don't really cut the mustard in a live environment. Give us Age Of Consent or Sunrise over Who's Joe or GIAUE anyday.

No Joy Division songs!

We want SUNRISE, Round and Round, Paradise, Age of FUCKING Consent etc etc

I know how good the JD stuff is,but i think they`ve gone a bit far with it-at the expense of the NO back cat. At the end of the day they are New Order now,not Joy Division.

Ah but isn't Decades more of a "studio recording only" sort of song? It's a bit too delicate and quiet to be drummed out to an arena full of people replete with whoops and bum notes

Alot of what made Decades, as with pretty much all of the Joy Division stuff, was Ian's vocals and Martin Hannett's production. In the live arena they are both very obviously missing so automatically won't be anywhere near as good as the records.

Very good point. But psychologically you will still hear partly the recorded version in your head trying to match it with what's on stage. BTW, we've got a great opportunity to listen to Decades live the way JD perfomed, on Still - I did like it though. Maybe as a closing song of "encore" it would work (think of Your Silent Face). :)

Defo all worthy of getting aired again-and as Spotnick has rightly pointed out, there should also be at least 1 track off Technique(VP, Round & Round or Dream Attack would the top 3 picks of most of us I'd say). And as I've said before, if they've gotta do JD stuff, let Hooky have a go at it instead.

Nobody's denying New Order play JD's stuff with a load of passion but the vocals really don't suit Barney at all. Transmission and Isolation are about the only JD songs which have translated well into their live sets for me.

Doubt they'll do EE of course as Barney has repeatedly said the guitar playing on that tune hurts his hand :( gutted.

See my earlier post about perhaps letting Hooky sing them.

Maybe Phil would have less difficulties doing the chord shapes for EE-after all, David Rhodes the sometimes session/live guitarist for Peter Gabriel was the guy who played a lot of the guitar parts on Republic and was probably the one who actually played the chords on the Republic take of that song(either that or Stephen Hague, who has played guitar on other tracks he's recorded for other people, has moonlighted on some Republic stuff as well).

They have done Decades, haven't they? 84 bootleg I have, I think.

I'm hoping for Sunrise, EGG, AOC! :D

Dunno where you got this from. Nothing has come from official sources on new old songs, we know they soundchecked Dead Souls at Manchester in January. No mention of Decades at all.

What was wrong with Bernard??!! This seems very strange indeed.

I don't particularly want new songs aired, but am curious as to whether their 2006 gigs might be for previewing them. Bands usually start gigging for this reason and we know how much Barney hates gigging. Personally I'd love to hear Mesh, Broken Promise, Sunrise, Dream Attack, Dreams Never End, but all pretty unlikely I think.

Very little chance of any old NO stuff, certainly nothing involving sequencers!

i'd be most happy not hearing sunset. face-up would be nice, but fat chance, eh?

Just a guess...because he was being a dictatorial twat while on coke and pissing the rest of NO off being Bernard Sumner, Wonder Vocalist/Keyboardist/Programmer, he either got too busy doing all that to do the guitar bits or Hague just took an executive decision while recording parts of the album at Realworld to let David Rhodes play some of them to get the album finished(If you really look hard at the liner notes of Republic you'll see his name there). As I say, just a guess....until Bernard or one of the others says otherwise.

most likely will be more jd stuff, especially as they have been quoted as saying they enjoyed it so much & they played those two jd only sets.

you can see that phil really enjoys playing those tracks too

I know I should probably STFU and let it go, but I can't. NO made me this way, watching Gillian run that pile of junk that was perpetually on the edge of exploding taught me that was how electronic music was meant to be. I don't wanna get into sequencers vs tape thing again, doubly so cos you know yourself all to well what the difference is.

Temptaion's sequenced still as far as I can tell (tho they use an external gate rather than any steam-powered V-trig (or S-Trig) malarky). EGG sounded live too last year, but it also sounded abysmal.

I dunno, I just miss the random factor from that end of the proceedings.

EGG was anything but live! Roger Lyons sampled an old bootleg to get the sequencer sounds!

I thought EGG was just the 12" and the band played over it and it seemed a lot slower. Tolworth it wasn't.
