Everything's Gone Green in 2005...............

I have some questions, perhaps some of you who went to the New Order shows in Europe can help me?

First off, after going thru all of the trouble to re program EGG for the 2005 tour....why the hell did they only play it at 2 shows? EGG is one of thier best songs....and a lot of fans would have loved to hear it.

I was at th Chicago 2005 show, and had a talk with several people in the audience who wanted NO to play that...

I dunno. I love JD....but New Order have, in the past 6 years, added almost 10 new JD songs to thier live show (if you count all the JD songs they have added since 98) but virtually NO New Order songs.

I mean, we got Your Silent Face in 2001......and thats pretty much it. Oh wait...they did do Brutal.

I am of course not counting songs from the last 2 NO albums...

They have got Confusion and Fine Time programmed to be played on thier new equipment, so why dont they play them? They would go down a storm at almost any show. Why havent they played them since 98?

Going back to EGG, why did they go thru all the trouble of programming it to only play it twice?

How did it sound at the live shows, and what was the crowd reaction?

Also, Did Phil play keyboards or Guitar on EEG 05? Ive heard a live recording and I was wondering if Phil was actually playing the keyboards live or if they keyboards and sequencers had been put on a backing track so he could play guitar....

Anyone know?

They didn't program it. Roger Lyons sampled an old version and it played itself, with just live bass and guitar. Phil mimed, or played guitar on it, can't remember!

Thats pretty lame that all he did was sample the old version....

It its easy easy as that, why dont they just sample the insturmental version of Perfect Kiss and play live over it?

Because they don't want to play it anymore! It's one of those songs that Bernard can't sing/won't sing since he "learned how to sing" - they would need to change the key, which would entail programming. Same goes for Sunrise, Face Up, Age Of Consent, you name it!

Bernard did alright with Perfect Kiss back in the day. Lazy sod...

Bloody shame.They played BLT at Manc Apollo last November,can't understand why they don't give EGG the light of day.

Not sure, but as I can remember Phil was behind his keyboard and Barney played the guitar part.

EGG is probably different in that they didn't need to change the key for Bernard to be able to sing it (the high notes are well-spaced out, compared with chorus of TPK and AOC), so they can just sample it. Lazy buggers

yes, I saw EGG at Turin last year n'all. after the customary pre-appology from Barney, they ended up doing a good job as far as i remember.

Someone mentioned not long ago on here that doing the chords on EGG hurts barneys hands/fingers..........?

Nah, that was Everyone Everywhere that he couldn't play properly because it hurt his fingers. EGG's a piece of cake, just four or five chords.

The Brittany EGG was better than the Turin one!

There are two guitars on the Turin one. They enter at the wrong moment, and I think Phil might be playing a reverse chord order. Hooky also screwed up the bass line. Steve did a good job though.

Who pushed to get EGG back in the setlist? I know Barney is gunshy about a lot of material from that era (1980-1982), so did Hooky or Steve sell it, or was it Phil's influence?

OR, was it label or fan induced??
