Paul Young's Love Will Tear Us Apart - huh?

Just found a clipping from The Guardian in which Andrew Mueller refers to Paul Young's LWTUA - almost spat my muesli on to my organic wholemeal muffin (with low-fat, low-cholesterol spread).

He was actually writing about Def Leppard's idea of doing an album of covers and was merely referring to terrible covers generally.

Examples given were the aforementioned PY plus Ronan Keating's Fairytale Of New York (tell me that's a joke, please), Sheryl Crow's Sweet Child Of Mine, Annie Lennox's Train In Vain and Simple Minds version of, erm, LWTUA. Anyone heard the last one?

Def L's intended album seems to include Hanging On The Telephone, Waterloo Sunset and Roxy Music's Street Life. Can't wait.

i didn't think it was that bad. better than their original songs, anyway!

Ronan Keating did do Fairytale but wasn't allowed to swear on it just incase it corrupted his squeaky clean image. Can't remember what they were changed to but will try find 'em.

LWTUA has been covered by God knows how many people, but the Paul Young version was particularly bizarre!

Nouvelle Vagues cover of LWTUA is very bad, but strangely fun.

I heard Paul Young's version of LWTUA before I even knew of the existence of JD or NO let alone heard their versions. And then I discovered that I had actually been to sc...but you dont want to hear all that again.

The Paul Young cover is truly awful - it must have taken some effort to take such a beautiful song and completely and utterly trash it.

The Community 2 cover of LWTUA by Crisalida is pretty good.

Also, I have a version on a JD tribute album by a band called Stanton Miranda which is really good also.
