I dont mind "60 miles an hour" but agree that "Rock the Shack" is embarrasing. It gives "Murder" and "Spooky" a run for its money in my worst New Order songs.
On a New Order theme, I saw a fly poster for the new "24 Hour Party People" film. It shows Steve Coogan as Tony Wilson and is emblazed with a single word...TWAT.
Is this fair? Paul Calf once pondered "The Pompideu Centre...post modern icon or functionalist dreamscape?" (he had of course created a false opposition for himself).
And so I ask you, Anthony H Wilson...visionary who did more to bring punk/new wave to the publics attention than Malcolm McLaren could ever dream of or....TWAT ?

Not living in the Granada region I didn't see much of his tv work, and I can't profess to be any great expert on him.
However factory's publicity stunts such as record sleeves without a title were often humourous and always interesting. Selling out to a company called "London" records was a final piece of irony.
In the days of companies such as Factory, Rough Trade et all, the indie scene was so much more interesting than it is today.
Aside from music, he is largely responsible for my interest in cinema. When he was doing a piece about multiplex cinemas he said something like "don't go reading all the reviews and turning up with pre-concieved notions about the film, just go to the cinema, pick a film at random and make up your own mind whether or not you like it".
I did and discovered some wonderful movies that don't get the media attention they deserve. (Smoke, Festen .......)
In my book he's a top geezer!

A well constructed argument Mr Blue Sky. I've watched many New Order/Factory documentaries and I've never been able to settle on an opinion about Wilson. I've got to go for a fence-sitting "he's both". I felt that Wilson wasn't really in control, it all just raced away from him (in hindsight, I think I was wrong) and now he's finally caught up with it all and enjoying a fine and lucrative renaissance. He's a clever TWAT. And as a onetime Factory completist I blame him for the fact (ahem) that I never had the latest trainers at school but I could whistle Stockholm Monsters' 'Fairy Tales' backwards. I also admire the way he isn't too precious about Ian Curtis. Yes, thumbs up for Anthony H.
