it happened last week in order to remember ian's 26th anniversary. i DJed at a club/bar called area city in san josé, costa rica. the idea was to play 26 songs from different bands that somehow were connected (or not in some cases, i admit it) to joy division and their influence.

you can see the flyer here: http://beatmaster23.blogspot.com/2006/05/16-de-mayo.html

and here is the setlist: ian curtis/stephen morris interview + new dawn fades 1-bauhaus - st vitus dance 2-pixies - gouge away 3-todosantos – ian curtis 4-interpol - pda 5-nirvana – Heart shaped box 6-nine inch nails – dead souls joy division - chance (atmosphere) 7-the cure - pictures of you 8-buzzcocks - what do i get? 9-sisters of mercy – walk away 10-siouxie and the banshees - spellbound 11-morrissey - suedehead new order - dreams never end 12-kendra smith - heart and soul 13-depeche mode - my joy 14-cranes - lillies 15-curve - missing link joy division - transmission 16-happy mondays - hallelujah (club mix) 17-iggy pop - lust for life 19-revenge – pineapple face 18-the other two - feel this love 20-monaco – what do you want from me? new order - ceremony 21-leftfield - a final hit 22-colder – crazy love 23-808 state - contrique 24-unkle – panic attack 25-she wants revenge – tear you apart 26-placebo – a song to say goodbye joy division - love will tear us apart

Cool! Always fancied Costa Rica. What sort of crowds do you get for these events?

That's very good, beatmaster.

the place where the tribute took place is one, if not the only, alternative bar in san josé. it's a small bar that can hold up to 50 people if you don't mind being unable to breathe... so the crowd is comprised of basically 18-35 year old people enjoying the music a lot. with beers at $1.20 a bottle, who wouldn't?!?!?
