Weather in early October over here is usually quite wet, if sometimes a hangover from the meak summer..ie wet and humid, though not like you'd get in somewhere like the Caribbean (or however you spell it). Temperature is usually around 10-15deg C (for you North Americans that's between 50 F and 70 F I think) and it is usually wet at some point in the day. So, yes bring a coat and warm clothing if you are gonna be outside quite a lot; otherwise dont't and just soak up the UK culture
