If you could lose one song from an album...

If there's one song you wish the band didn't include on one of their albums, which is it?

Never saw the point of the TPK edit on Low Life. Seems out of place. Should have done a proper cut of Let's Go instead.

To be honest I can't think of anything that I would have liked remoived from an NO album. Ofcourse I would like the full version TPK on Low-Life, but that's just not New Order.

Hmmm... I can't really think of anything either. There aren't any songs I really hate and not too many that seem out of place.

All the other albums have a consistent enough quality all the way through. As for the five songs I nominated above I wouldn't really care if I never heard any of them again, they're just rubbish to me. I even prefer the weaker moments on Republic and Jetstream above them

The three from PC&L turned a potentially flawless album into er, a flawed one. If you take them out PC&L works as a fantastic EP I reckon.

Ah, I love Ultraviolence and Ecstacy. Wish New order were still capable of writing songs like that. Fair point on WAS.

Weirdo, Slow Jam and the tracks 6-9 from Republic. Also the edit of TPK; Let's Go should've been on Low Life either as an instrumental or with the 1985 vocal. It's great either way.

There is such a thing as creative licence you know! (better known as taking liberties).

I propose these:

Movement can stay as it is - as all the tracks are pretty much equal in terms of homogeneity - bar the opener of course which is in a league of its own.

PC & L could do without We All Stand cos it drags, frankly.

Low Life could do without SubCulture and Face Up. Too HI-NRG for my liking both of those.

Brotherhood is spoiled by the utterly hopeless Lou Reed track right at the end. And the CD version could also do without track 10.

Technique - no excisions, it's a masterpiece.

Republic - oh dear..... at least half of that album should not even exist (All of side two for starters!)

Fat Eddie can wave goodbye to Rock The Shack and Run Wild as they're both ultra-naff. Someone Like You is also a possible candidate for the chop cos it's gloopy.

WFTSC can jettison Jizzstream in a huge block of blue ice over Boatraceface's house so that he can have all the effluent as I'm sure he really loves that song with a passion. Along with that crappy UB40 / Ace Of Bass pisstake. Draculars Castle is a bit duff as well. I loved Working Overtime on first few listens but the novelty appeal seems to have worn off now - it's like that album's Rock The Shack. Lorraine absolutely hates that song and I can't bear her beating me up each time it comes on the stereo, so that one has to go.

Get hold of the first Community album and listen to Kremlin's cover of STYT and you might change your mind about the song.

Movement: I'd prefer the entire album to be rerecorded. Would probably still suck ass, but the production would be competant this time.

PCL: Dump "We All Stand"

Low-Life: don't dump anything, just get rid of the truncated Perfect Kiss and include the full length version.

Brotherhood: Replace the poorly mixed version of BLT with the one of the three different single remixes. The sound quality for the last 45 seconds or so is reminscent of Sub-Culture in it's muddiness.

Technique: Fine Time could be dumped and I wouldn't shed a tear, you could add Best and Marsh or Don't Do it, two B-Sides I absolutely loved to fill in after Guilty Partner.

Republic: Dump both Chemical and Liar, Liar is their worst or second worst song ever, Chemical their worst or second worst song ever, can never decide, probably would go with Liar.

Get Ready: I can live with everything save the title 60mph. Does Barney understand that that's the speed old ladies drive at on the freeway? Stupidest title to any song ever as it really, really didn't seem to capture the point he was trying to get across.

WFTSC: The only song I skip every single Time I hear it is I told you so or whatever it's called, wouldn't miss its absence at all.

i would lose We All Stand for sure. i do love the live versions though! Republic and Get Ready are both hit and miss really, i'd loose quite a few of the songs. Low-Life can stay as it is...although i wouldnt say no to the full length TPK (and possibly Let's Go early vocal)

with Technique, I would say that fine time is the useless one...

I myself quite likie Rock The Shack. After Crystal and 60mph it's my gfavorite song in GR.

I actually like Fine Time myself, but I feel it would've worked better as a stand alone single and not on the album.

For me, the same applies for TBK and didn't need to be on the album in any form. As has been pointed out already, the edit was crudely executed and removed the whole reason for the track (even the last verse) and sounds very much like the last minute consideration that I understand it to be.

I don't know if the added State Of The Nation on the CD version of Brotherhood really counts as that was just added at re-issue stage and I don't see it as a bonafide track off the album, but I would certainly not have it there myself.

Maybe I Told You So from WFTSC and Liar from Republic as well.

Movement: Senses. I dunno. It just doesn't do much for me. PC&L: The Village Low Life: The Perfect Kiss edit.. blah. Brotherhood: As It Is When It Was. This song could put me to sleep. Technique: I guess Fine Time. Republic: Liar. For sure. I quite like the rest. Get Ready: Run Wild. Sorry. It can be a b-side if it wants, but Sabotage as the album closer. What release is that on anyways!? Though I did like Sputnik's cover of Run Wild alot. Waiting For The Sirens' Call: Working Overtime. Yup. Too jangly guitarish.

But again, I'd keep everything on there personally.

That is why these topics or the New Order cup are interesting.

For the next cup, we should play groups like in the real cup. Four songs in each group, three matches. The first one of the group is the one which won every match or has the largest amount of voices... Then following this logic, the second is to be qualified and some thirds (with the most numerous votes) could go through to the final stage of the competition.

Now to chart the most painful inclusions I've seen from people:

Slow Jam: I admit I think I'm the only guy on the planet who likes the song. It's a chuga-chuga kind of tune, a bit slow moving, but i love the chorus lyric wise and how it's performed.

Times Change: Quite a few people hate it, but I love the lyrics and the chorus is one of my favorite ever.

Weirdo: My favorite song on Brotherhood by a country mile, far and away my favorite, and yet several people absolutely hate it. Interesting. I love the intro, the chorus, and the vocals.

Love Less: Initially my favorite ever song, than my favorite on Technique, it's slipped a little but I still love it.

Sub Culture: Horrible mix at the end, the sound goes to shite, not sure why but I still love it, and obviously some hate it.

Face UP: multiple votes for this one, and yet another that I love and find fun and energetic and thoroughly different than their style but still very similar, particularly the ending.

All of side 2 on Republic (What about Special?!?!)

Someone Like You: I guess this sounds like dance by the numbers, but I still am fond of it. Not a classic but I like it.

Guilty Partner: I will admit it was my most hated track on Technique until I got sick of Fine Time. Over time it's grown on me and while not a favorite, is still a tune I'd say is solid.

Sooner than you think: Lots of people chose this, why? Bizarre subject matter, and I often wonder what the original lyrics were on that bootleg record I lost of a concert where this was called "Aleph", but still it's a beautiful song, really interesting and beautiful.

As it is when it was?!?! The only issue i've ever had with it is the drums, they should have used the bongo's R.E.M. used with, "King of Birds" live, as this song begs to have the drum kit thrown out the window and a more subtle approach used. Broken Promise: Couple votes for this, with it's supposed "Isolation" riff rip off I often have felt it was one of their best straight ahead rockers.

Love Vigilantes: How is this chosen? I've never seen it as a classic top 5 song as others have, but get rid of it?!?!

every little counts: Tons of people hate it, I dont, and I love the bit where it pauses, and then goes into that beautiful synth finale that is then unfortunately squelched by the sound effects, and needle being dragged across a record effect.

Thieves: I didnt see this listed, but another fan did, so maybe I missed it. Two of my best friends, and also fans of the band equally hate it, mostly due to the lyrics, and the vocals on the chorus, and yet I'd list it up there with their best ever material (for me Age of Consent, BLT, 1963, Mr. Disco, Run etc).

PCL: We All Stand could be flushed and I wouldn't care at all, while they're at it they could ditch that opening 97 second intro to 5 8 6.

Low-Life: Get rid of the edit of Perfect Kiss, either include the longform or drop it from the album entirely.

Brotherhood: Hated the version of BLT used, should have been the single version or the Married to the Mob Remix (far and away the best version of the song)

Technique: Fine Time, probably should have been stand alone single as others have mentioned.

Republc: Ditch the album and make it an ep:

I doubt people would have hated Republic nearly as much if it were an EP with only those songs (some might prefer Ruined in a day to Times Change, I do not).

Get Ready: I can deal alright with every song, even Run Wild which I never disliked, just thought was mediocre, only the 60mph lyric and title needs to be changed to 90mph or at least something that actually makes sense.

WFTSC: Get Rid of I told you so. I hate GIAUE as well for the most part, but I'd still be willing to keep it. Working Overtime is pointless but I'm not gonna demand it's exclusion.
