Inspired by a few threads we've had before, go through all of NO's studio albums and select one song that should have been a single (including all albums) but wasn't, and one song that should not have been but was (not applicable to the first two albums, obviously). And there are no cop-out answers allowed like "I like all them singles from Technique," nor substitutions of different mixes, because the point is you have to choose.

I wish they didn't bloody well bother starting to include them on them either - at least that way they'd have to write a few more decent songs, if not proper b-sides like Lonesome Tonight and 1963, the lazy bastards.

As far as Technique was concerned, it is a pity that nobody believed they had the necessary creative editing skills to get Vanishing Point down to a 2:30 - 3:45 track length radio edit.

This was the first single, if only those with the necessary authority could see past the instant quick-fix of the high energy singles that were released.

Regrettably (no pun intended), this is a problem that Simple Minds, Duran Duran and even now Depeche Mode have too.

Waiting For The Sirens' Call had the worst decisions yet - though you do wonder about these "world-class" remixers as well. Morning, Night and Day and Guilt Is A Useless Emotion were exactly what Technique lacked.

Movement: Dreams Never End is the only track with 'single' potential really.

PCL: Again, very few singles on here, probably 'The Village'

Low-Life: This Time of Night Don't think I'd scrap either single... I particularly love Sub-Culture.

Brotherhood: Angel Dust or Paradise Scrap State of the Nation. Pointless single with few 'new' tracks.

Technique: Run didn't have 'hit single' about it... Vanishing Point definitely

Republic: Ruined In A Day was possibly a poor choice... go with Special instead

Get Ready: 60 Miles An Hour scrapped... release Someone Like You or Primitive Notion instead.

WFTSC: Jetstream or even Krafty Morning Night & Day and Guilt Is A Useless Emotion had bigger hit potential I feel.

State of the Nation IS on my copy of Brotherhood, its the last track. My copy is not a special edition.

Why are people saying that its not on Brotherhood?

SOTN wasn't on the original LP but has appeared on the CD version since.

A snippet of SOTN appears at the end of Every Little Counts showing it as part of the same recordings and one track of a bunch was selected as a single the rest for the album so I think it is fair to count this one, call it a swap. My swap? Weirdo.
