Vanishing Point featured on the Very Best of New Order but didn't appear on the Singles Album. As this was a full singles collection I wondered if anyone knew why?

Vanishing Point was never a single, just an album track on Technique. Since Singles collects the, erm, singles, the absence of VP is to be expected. :)

From the NOOL FAQ:

"Was Vanishing Point ever released as a single?

Vanishing Point was selected by a public relation firm as the first single off Technique, but the band fired them and decided to release Fine Time instead."

Also, from the Niagra discography entry for (the best of):

Q: Why is Vanishing Point included on the album? A: [Antoine] "Because it was planned for a single release in 1994. But London Records changed their mind and went for a new version of True Faith instead. A radio edit for Vanishing Point is supposed to exist, as well as several mixes..."

Wow, I'd love to hear those mixes, but I'm sure I'm not the only one around here ;)

vanishing point (instrumental) was released on the Round&remix single, on Excerpts from Recycle and on the Touched By the Hand Of God boot.

I would have loved to hear those other remixes as well.

It featured as the theme to Making Out too as they were writing both the incidental stuff for MO at the same time as recording Technique. They've a habit of recycling some of their tv stuff as New Horizons from Superhighways was the theme tune to Common As Muck, or at least an instrumental version of it was.

Pity neither series has been released on DVD but then the BBC think it's better to release crap like On The Up instead!

One of my favourite New Order songs right now.

I didn't know there had been plans to release it 94.Hmmm..

I remember diffrent versions (without lyrics)of it on the Making Out TV series and the mix on the Round & Round CD single is pretty good.

Some of the music that eventually formed World In Motion was also used on an old BBC2 "youth" news magazine type programme called Reportage late 89/Early 1990

Er, I wouldn't put too much faith in there being numerous remixes of Vanishing Point let alone a Radio Edit. To my knowledge, not even the hardcore collectors (even Mr Sultan) have ever heard any of them and the Discography site quote is simply saying "is supposed to exist" which is very different from did exist

No promos of Vanishing Point as a single exist or are listed anywhere. I'd bet the record label considered it on paper but rejected the idea certainly before any remixes were paid for.

Fantastic choon though.
