Legendary Mancunian punk funkers A Certain Ratio are set to play their first live date for five years at Soul Jazz's second annual 1977 clubnight which takes place at Electrowerks, London EC1 on March 29th.

This year's three-room celebration of 70's club culture will also boast a live appearance from Cabaret Voltaire founder Richard H Kirk plus DJ sets from ace remixer Andrew Weatherall, former Specials leader Jerry Dammers and the Soul Jazz crew. The triple-headed musical attack will comprise the main live room, a 100% Dynamite reggae room headed-up by Dammers and an enclave playing old school punk sounds.

The event's live sets will throw into sharp relief the pioneering rock / dance crossover work of such late-70's and early-80's combos as A Certain Ratio, Cabaret Voltaire, Throbbing Gristle and The Slits, who are all featured on Soul Jazz's much-lauded In The Beginning There Was Rhythm compilation album.

A collection of A Certain Ratio's defining tracks, titled Early, is soon be released by Soul Jazz, as is Chant To Jah, the debut album by Richard H Kirk's new reggae / dance project, Sandoz.

Get the feeling you're well up for this one Mickey?

Trust you'd like to meet up for some looseners before the show? Any pref for a meet?

Yes, I have a couple of mates coming down on the Friday afternoon. I plan to go for something to eat first about 5-6-ish and then take them to The Social, The Embassy and The Islington Bar and Grill and perhaps a few others before heading to the gig.

Anyone is welcome to join us or we could name a specific pub and time. Was in the Embassy last week and they don't have the cocktails named after NO/JD anymore but its still quite a cool bar.

It's hardly a 5-min walk now, is it? Best thing about Essex Road is 'Get Stuffed' - 15k gets you the Grizzly [and] the Lion!
