Remember not especially liking it at irst, but it has grown on me a lot over the years... I think at the time I thought it was a bit boring compared to some of their other tracks, but with hindsight/time it's a wonderful example of how Hannett's production shapd the band's sound...

cant see how you can call it 'poppy' - its classic joydivision to me, i love it.

First (and probably last) time I've heard Digital being referred to as poppy but more bafflingly as not sounding like Joy Division?! You couldn't get more JD than that song, all of their signature sounds are right there.
The 5 11 DVD version from 2002 is a nostalgia fuelled shambles but the original recorded version with Mr Hannett is a fantastic tune 
I love Digital too.
The bass line is easy to play and hypnotic. 
It can stay in my head all day long...
I find the 2002 Finsbury Park version excellent
For me it's the 2nd best JD song.The first being Heart And Soul.Joy Division at their very best.
Easily in my top 5!
The Hannett-produced recording is fine, but I quite enjoy it live as well.
Nearly pissed myself when I read this thread. It is archetypal Joy Division, Digital, probably the first song they recorded that combined the fury of the song itself with the advanced production techniques used by Hannett.
Day in Day out - Of course I like it.
By 'poppy' i presume you mean, fast & fairly simple - whats wrong with that.
Only gripe i would have is that the drum is pretty basic - i'm used to getting a lot more 'Steve' than that.

It's one of my top 3... Along with COLONY and whatever else is popping through my head at the time; usually NOVELTY.
Wouldn't call it 'poppy'- Defo. more punk in spirit to me- but each to their own!
Sorry to say it...
...but it's rarely done anything for me. It always seemed to me a little too simple without much to catch my ear. My favorite JD song is "She's Lost Control," which is also very simple, but something about it catches me. I don't know why, but "Digital" doesn't do that for me. It's repetitive, which is not necessarily bad, but not in a way that repeats what I consider a catchy groove. Maybe to me it feels just too light and poppy compared with their other songs. I don't know whether that surprises anyone, but then I'm amazed at how some people don't like what I consider undislikable JD and NO songs.

it's a classic, definitive JD song - how could anyone not like it? To me, it's far better than the overplayed LWTUA...
