Peter Saville, The Happy One and Channel One

When I was in ninth grade, our first class period was extended to allow time for Morning Announcements (done via closed-circuit TV). You'd have The Pledge of Allegiance, and some news and notes. After that, they showed a daily 20-minute program called Channel One.

At one point, in Spring of 1994, I found out Peter Saville was behind this because they showed a montage of Saville's work and I remember being giddy that they were showing all these New Order covers on the school's TV. But I SWEAR the background music to this montage was the full 'The Happy One'. Maybe I'm wrong, but maybe that's where people have copied it from. I don't know.

Does anyone (in the US) remember Channel One? It was short-lived. Like 1991-1994 or something. I know that 'The Happy One' is kind of shrouded in mystery and I was thinking about all this this morning so maybe someone here can shed some light on this.

Thanks. :)

Is there even a full-length of 'The Happy One' or is it a phantom?

£50 note put together his own version from the clips on substance 1989 video a couple of weeks ago and posted it on here.

I heard about a version that was cut-and-pasted but it had problems, or something? Is 50 quid's a better version? I'd like to check that one out.

i remember channel one! i don't think it was short-lived though, as we used to watch it in the mornings at my middle school 1999-2001 (i'm a young one). lisa ling was actually the head reporter

sorry, can't help you with any valuable information about the song or saville though

Yep, I remember Lisa Ling, too. When I switched high schools in 1994, I never saw it again, but oh well.

I guess it seems no one knows about a full version of The Happy One. I mean, s**t, one HAS to exist somewhere.

Oh well.

The alleged full version of The Happy One can be found on the "Excerpts From Recycle" bootleg - although it's origin and validity remain a mystery.

As stated previously, Fifty Quid did a very good home-made version using the snippets from the Substance VHS.

The Happy One. You can get it on the Remastered re-issue of Technique that`ll be released in 2010. :blackeye:

After eventually securing a decent copy of THO (snippets mix) I now have it as my mobile ring-tone.

:D

Just thought I'd share that.

See you in Blackpool.
