Am I the only one who thinks this is a she-ite idea?
I mean, they're losing it live as it is - how would this one work? Thin ties and grey trousers for the first set, quick costume change at half-time for Barney to get into dayglo and Hooky to don some leather? Oh, puh-leez 
Bobbins! Are they New Order or a (self) tribute band!? 
The great thing about New Order's return is how relevant and fresh they still sound. If after the poor sales of Get Ready they are going to start peddling nostalgia they might as well join the Culture Club and ABC on tour and leave us to enjoy their back catalogue.

I think it's a quite nice idea! But i wouldn't do two separate sets. I think the JD songs fit in pretty well into the NewOrder set. The re-worked Isolation is great and Transmission is also quite cool with two guitars. I'd like to hear "Dead Souls", "24 hours", "Insight" and a lot more...cheers. :D
I actually don't mind the idea - though I'd hope the NO set was at least twice as long as the JD set. Think the costume change idea's a good'un as well Al. In fact they could take it one step further and wear smiley t-shirts for any Technique songs, tight blue jeans for the mid eighties, and that shocking jacket Barney wore on Jools for the GR stuff..

Yes, why not? These are their songs, so why not play them live? It would be great to hear "She's Lost Control", "24 Hours" and "Decades" live again.
Perhaps we might get an acooustic version of Blue Monday if they're going all stadium rock on us.
Though if they do play a 6 song JD set and the an NO set featuring Perfect Kiss, Sub-culture, Thieves Like Us, Dreams Never End, Age of Consent and Sunrise in addition to the usual fayre then fair enough.
But what will the Barnster make of all this additional reheasal time and re-learning of lyrics etc?!
Part of me (75%) would abaolutelt love to hear them do a whole set of JD songs, while the other part (?%) is a bit hesitant. Sure, it's nice to throw in a few SLCs and LWTUA to make me feel bad about living on the wrong continent, but a whole set?! Jeez, makes it awfully hard for me not to want to immigrate....
Who would top the bill? JD or NO?

To see them doing 2 sets would be a bonus - but knowing how lazy the Bastards are.......you'd get the usual JD numbers, and the usual NO numbers! So basically it'd be the same sets they've already been playing

I'm not in favour of JD tracks at every NO gig. As sad as the rest of you I can list a collection of Norder tracks heard live even the playing of atmosphere and LWTUA cheapens once collectors items.
Playing 2 hour sets just turns them into the Genesis's & Springsteen's that were dinosaurs in the glory days of the eighties.
Less Get ready, Less Republic. Fewer reworks of old classics - True Faith &others don't work as well as they used to.
We need more tracks that actually work well as live tracks.
Definites: Ceremony, Temptation, Age of Consent, Procession (to complete a singles collection!)
Would Really Like: Lonesome Tonight, AIIWIW, Sunrise, Face Up, Elegia, Lets Go.
Time to admit they are playing to sad 30 somethings who want to relive their youth and prove to spouses just how good this lot are.
I am pretty sure they will NEVER do it. Does anyone here really believe Barney is going to learn how to play and sing old JD songs while he is not even able to remember his own lyrics? No way, they are going to play the same set again and again but maybe this time, they will add "here to stay" in the end. Which is the main reason why i am gonna try to go to the Paris concert.
He does have his autocue at the front of the stage so he can read the lyrics though .. Rolling Stone took a picture of it in their last issue and made a crack about him being to old to remember his own words ...

So I don't see why people are so surprised that they now choose to do Joy Division "covers"....it's better than Paul bloody Young and that omnipresent peddlar of crap coffee-table-peugeot-shafting-lift-muzak Baldy doing them isn't it? Which would you prefer? :p

Of course I want to hear some of the old NO songs that have been quoted here but at least I have heard most of em before albeit 15 odd years ago. Many of the old JD tracks have just never been dusted off since their demise & I would be very excited at the prospect at hearing some of these for the first time.
Remember last summer Al, when we got the rumour from he-who-can't-be-named-on-this-site that the Order would possibly be playing New Dawn Fades with Moby. And then it happened. Right in front of our disbelieving eyes. Knowing they hadn't played the fucker for over 20 years. Goosepimples moment for me, simple as that.
Then the Mp3 of them playing Transmission for John Peel & the realisation that if they've been arsed to rehearse it they'll almost certainly start playing it. First night at the Apollo, second track in, wooomph, FOOK ME it's Tranmission! & everyone goes mental down the front. Can't think of any NO song that's had the same effect on me in the last year. KW1 at The Olympia? close, but no Cigar. Everything else you can set your bastard Watch by.
My fave album from NO/JD is Closer so praps I'm not typical on this forum & I guess it comes down to which music you prefer.

i dont give teo fucks cause i wont get to see it anyway and i dont think i want to Love will tear us a part sounds like a bad sing along since they have beagn playing it and the annoying woops during atmosphere is horrible imagine them playing means to an end "avenues all line lined in trees woooooooooop"
When we had that thread about who should support NO at Finsbury, I said, albeit tongue in cheek, Joy Division. Always been in favour of them doing 45 mins of JD stuff separately to their New Order songs. As they've done She's Lost Control, Decades and Heart and Soul before live, they could easily add them to the usual LWTUA, Atmosphere, Transmission and Isolation and make a tidy set. All it would need then would be Dead Souls, Disorder and Warsaw (;))and we have a decent gig !
We may even get a New Order set of songs people want to hear as well then.....
Although I have reservations, as a one-off, I think it'd be interesting to say the least. Perhaps the most positive thing we can take from this is the fact that - if Hooky's to be believed - they're seriously willing to delve into their back catalogue. If they'll consider playing songs that they haven't performed (for an audience, at least) since Ian mixed it with a clothes line then I'm hoping that the fantasy set list appearing on another thread won't be too far wide of the mark.

i think it's a good idea. i mean, they wrote the songs, they can do whatever they want with them. i remember barney said a while ago that everyone is allowed to cover joy division songs except new order! i think they would do justice to the songs and give them a new face lift. it would be interesting to see how the songs that haven't been played for a long time by barney and co. turn out. if i could i'd buy a ticket and see the concert out of curiousity. i find it funny some people i think it's a sell out to play a whole set of these songs, cuz if that's the case, then haven't they already sold out by still playing blue monday?

i hope they play two sets i think its a brilliant idea... i,ve paid £35 for this and i want entertaining.. if i,d wrote them songs i,d want to be playing them too!!! i sometimes think new order cant do owt right for some people, i mean they dont do owt for ages and then when it seems like full steam ahead all people do is moan. there aint enough good bands around as it is, lets enjoy this while it lasts cause when theyve gone you,d kill for a joy division set...NUFF SAID!!!!!!!!!
Am I the only one who finds it ironic that NO get criticised for not varying their set list and when they actually propose an idea rectifying this, they get criticised anyway!
OK, the idea itself is a bit on the tacky side, but come on, who would honestly be disappointed if they rolled out Digital, New Dawn Fades, She's Lost Control etc? As long as they play some new JD songs then I'm well up for it. I'm dragging along a mate from London who's more of a JD fan anyway, so he'll be well pleased.
I would suggest that they include some Revenge songs but that would just be greedy.
I think the problem with the Joy Division set is they have too many incredible New Order songs that should get a chance at least as much as the JD songs. It is nice to hear JD songs but to be honest, Barney doesn't do these songs justice. His delivery of LWTUA is decent but Atmosphere should not be Whoop-ed up. It's a crime to destroy that song with whoops and whistles. Barney can never reach the same emotional depth as Ian and these songs will only be as good as Barney's delivery of the vocal (you're only as strong as your Weakest Link). Let's hear the classic New Order songs : Everythings Gone Green, Procession, Lonesome Tonight, Sunrise, Sub-Culture, Perfect Kiss, Thieves Like Us, anything from Technique, Primitive Notion and Vicious Streak...with various JD tracks thrown in for the encore. Maybe they should use the technology available and play the music live while a recording of Ian sings with suitably depressing images flashing on a sceen behind Steven...anything but Barney ruining a whole set worth of JD classics.
I kinda agree with you Brian - having Barney ruin a whole set of JD songs may spoil it, as much as I'd like to hear them.
I don't like them doing LWTUA, as it's all guitar rather than having the original keyboards high in the mix. The only one they enhance is Transmission. Would love to hear Decades again, as that was so much better than the JD live version when they did it at Festival Hall and Paradiso in 84.
