Well, finally got to see 24HPP last night at a very busy press screening in the UGC Glasgow. I won't bore you with any long-winded musings but here's a few thoughts for what they're worth
1)It wasn't very good. It was too long (just over two hours)and the bits that were meant to be funny weren't that funny although that's mabye because I've read the book and knew all the punchlines in advance. All and all though I was dissapointed although the two journos I was with thought it was above average.
2)Steve Coogan was very good. Inevitably there was a touch of the Alan Partridge in a lot of scenes but that's no bad thing. He got the accent, mannerisms and delivery spot on.
3)Ralph Little...said about four lines in the whole film. John Simm....ditto. The guy that played IC.....excellent, the best thing in the film for me. A bigger role than I expected and he handled it well. He even got the dead fly dance perfect.
4)Curtis' death scene. Despite reading somewhere that it had been handled badly I thought it was in fact the best part of the movie. Very powerful and quite touching. A shot of Curtis in the coffin is followed by Atmosphere slowly fading in in the background at the "People like you find it easy.." bit and then the shot cuts to the 1988 video playing the end of the song out and finishing with the black and white hooded guys holding up the massive picture of Ian. "Ian Curtis 1956-1980" then appears on the screen and the frame is held for about five seconds. Lump in the throat material. Brilliant.
5)That scene marks the halfway point in the film and the rest of it is almost exclusively about The Mondays and The Hacienda. NO make another brief appearance in a scene where they're writing Blue Monday but that's yer lot for the rest of the film.
6)The funniest bits....Rob Gretton chasing Tony Wilson round the Factory offices after finding out he'd spent 30 grand on an MDF table for the boardroom, God appearing as Tony Wilson right at the end, Martin Hannet getting buried in a comedy coffin the size of a bus due to his massive, bloated frame.
7)Mark E. Smith makes a cameo appearance. Which is nice.

There's a piece on the film in the Daily Ranger today - which basically said it's worth going to see, and that the guy playing Ian was brilliant.
Dunno if Kettering will be showing it next week - may well have to go to Peterborough to see it - then I'll be up the road next week to see the Bhoys clinch the title
