Well, they're preaching to the converted here but they were simply awesome. Didn't make the stage till past 12.30am so we were all well oiled by that point - and Johnny G had shot off cos he's catching a dawnbreak train up to Leeds for the War of the Roses at lunchtime. Missed a cracking gig, mind.

Same fabled line-up as before and all wearing well - Johnson, Kerr, Moscrop and Quigley, with the de rigeour anonymous 5th member keeping a lo-profile on keyboards (come back Andy Connell all is forgiven!). Only seemed to have one roadie - the young Scouse lad who does the Order, and New Order's sound woman Diane was on the mixing desk for 'em too.

Set seemed to tread the same path as recent Order gigs - start with the punchy shorter older numbers early on then begin to unwind with the longer lanquid dancier stuff as the set progresses (indeed, Denise Johnson joined 'em onstage from 'Starlight' onwards..).

And, of course, we got "Si Firmi O Grido" as an encore! Now, who could've predicted that one?! ACR's Blue Monday?!

Yeah, pretty good reception. About 15 of us went in together anyways so were making all the noise. Mobbed venue - Gerry Dammers was DJ'ing downstairs before and you couldn't even get in to the room he was in cos it was such a crush. ACR in a much smaller room upstairs but packed out. Hilite for me was Sounds Like Something Dirty knocked out midset - didn't they open with that at Finsbury 87 with 5000 meatheads trying to kick our way through the front of the stage. Crash barriers buckling up under the crush..

Doing Manc on Sunday too - come up and say Hello (pic of me and Paula on me profile!)..

Mmmm can't wait until Sunday. Anyone know the times of the gig there? Their web site says doors open 8pm 'till late' but will there be a 'late' due to it being Easter Sunday. Hang on I'll give them a call....

...and did you take any photos? i get so bored of people asking when is new order ever coming back to america, that i might as well ask when is acr ever coming back to america? honestly, i think there's more of a chance of acr coming back out here than new order.

Yeah, didn't stop me oversleeping & missing the train.Doh. Had to drop £62 notes to get on the next one & made it to the ground 2 mins before kick-off.

So lets see...missed ACR, paid for 2 train tix & then lost to our hated rivals. Good day out.

Yep - and I was going to turn up and chance getting a ticket on the door as well - too bad I can't catch them now.... boo hoo..... oh well, it'll have to be next time round I guess. I mean, I even missed the mighty APITOS (still featuring Simon Topping perhaps?) who - funnily enough - also played Band On The Wall on March 21st!! Doh!!

Hope you guys and gals have a CRACKIN night banging those cowbells and other Latin percussion bits for the encore! :)

Haven't even remotely had the chance to see ACR, and I am a bit jealous of those who got to attend. Glad to hear that they've still got it live. Consoled myself a bit with repeated listenings of the Live In America LP. Love the bit before Wild Party where America The Beautiful is played on the bass.

I purchased the 'Early' compilation yesterday and it is a real treat.

You have to take your hat off to Soul Jazz Records for the packaging and attention to detail which includes a 20 page mini-booklet with an interview with the band and some old photographs.

Cracking gig on Fri, wasn't it great not knowing what song was coming next?

Do the Du, Flight, The Fox, Sounds Like Something Dirty and Wild Party all in one set - you can't say fairer than that.

At one point I thought they were going to play all of The Old and the New in order!

Love the Peel Session version of All Nite Party....so much better with drums!!

Interesting to read the tales of ACR and JD sharing a rehersal room. ACR turned up one day to find that JD had left the place in total darkness. The fuse box had been removed....and placed in the mouth of a severed pig head on top of one of the amplifiers!

Surprised to learn that Madonna was their support act for one of the first New York gigs, too!

If you get the 'In the begginning there was rythmn' compilation I'm sure there's a photo of flyer from ACR's gig at the Danceteria in New York which shows Madonna as the support act.

Perhaps she should let ACR support her on her next world wide tour.

The Grace Jones story was interesting as well.
