Fac 33 Dog/Torch and "Veritas"

Is there any known signifcance to the "Dog with Torch" icon on the Ceremony single cover? Is it simply ornamentation? Or was New Order perhaps suggesting that they were carrying on Joy Division's torch?

Also, I know that "Veritas" means "truth" but how does that relate to "Ceremony"?

I don't think it means anything. Most Peter Saville designs don't actually mean anything.

The typeface is Albertus, designed by Berthold Wolpe.

I think the dog logo just happened to be at the top of the typeface specimen sheet that Saville had.

Back in the days before computer layout designers used Letraset rub-on letters that came in sheets. Saville was quoted in an article as saying both the dog with torch and the word veritas were the manufacturer's design elements on the Letraset sheet, and he thought they looked good so he (probably illegally) used them.

dunno if it has been picked up before but read somewhere that the 'III' and 'O' on the Ceremony sleeve is Greek for 'N' and 'O' ?

Where can i get a proper copy of the Ceremony 'III' and 'O', with the right dimensions?

I want a tattoo, but don't have the single. I can't really print from internet as it's not clear enough due to it being embossed and not printed.

Or should i just rough it, get it near enough?

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but 'N' in Greek is the same as in the Latin alphabet isn't it?

No.

The Greek character for N is N and the character for O is O or maybe δ.

The three IIIs are to represent candles or torches, as would be used in a ceremony (Saville's words).

correct - N is N (capital) and v (small) O IS O and o
