Fans of Ian Curtis are set to get the chance to appear in the new biopic about the Joy Division front man.

The makers of ‘Control’ are searching for people to appear in crowd scenes for the movie that is shooting around the country this summer.

The scenes are being shot in Nottingham and Manchester during the rest of July and August with hundreds of extras being needed according to the BBC.

To get you chance to appear in the film simply email controlfilm@leftlion.co.uk for more details.

The producers mail was over on JD Central about a month ago, I don't know anyone who has heard back from them yet!

To appear in a crowd scene, aren't they going to want people a lot slimmer, younger and more hirsute than most of us...?!!

That's a very good point bald 35-45ers won't quite fit the bill. Of course after Old Monkey's ten years younger makeover - who knows :D

Older people went to JD gigs in 79 and 80 as well you know! ;)They weren't exclusively followed by kids their own age!

No different to me going to say a Bloc Party gig, or a Libertines gig.

I've just got the call. Had to give em measurement details for wardrobe, age etc then she booked me in and will give me a call back to fill me in on further details. Filming in Nottingham on Thursday. Its a gig scene. They also want people for a Bowie gig scene tomorrow but its too short notice.

Is it Bowie tomorrow, if so I've been mislead.

Vicky called me and said it was for Control

Got an e-mail tonight from Vicky, saying she needs people for concert scenes on 18/19/20/and 21st July, and that she needs some contact numbers.I'll have to dust off the old leather jacket!

Mike,is it generally filmed in the daytime,or can it sort of stretch to the evenings? I've never done extra work, and the way things are looking this week,it's going to be hard getting the daytime off work.

I dunno, I'm as much in the Dark as you. They took all my measurements, so i guess they have a wardrobe department.

Didnt leave my phone number though, Just asked if they would reply if they needed me

This Vicky lass told me that today they were filming a Bowie gig and the 'call' was for 3.00pm. I assumed that what she meant by this was shooting will start at at 3. Therefore its safe to say it will go into the early evening.

I got a call on monday lunch time asking if i could go to Nottingham today! and then again on thursday. Sadly i have had to turn it down.Vicy has askd me to call again on monday when she said she will have more of an idea of what their requirements are regarding extras. She also asked me to bring a load of people with me,which suggests they are short of people.

Does that include us old, fat people :D

She asked that they should all be over 16.Not sure if she meant stones or age!!!! Fairly sure that there were fat people around in the late 70s,my dad was one of them.

A bit gutted.Vicky wanted some bodies for tomorrow daytime, and I can't get out of work.Said ring again on Monday, but they generally only give a couple of days notice,so it's not like you can sway a particular day off.

I have just impulsively agreed to do it in Nottingham tomorrow for £50!

May have to drive up so if anyone else in London wants to do it and wants a lift there and back let me know!! Think it's all day tomorrow.

Yikes dreading the 70s costume!

Got meetings at work now that I didn't book until I thought I wasn't going to Nottingham. Realistically it ain't worth it for £50, especially as I was gonna have to stay overnight in all probability without a car!

Dude I got this email just now, check it out:

Hi.

I am in receipt of your e-mail. Yes there is a lot of work on this film. There are to many variables to discuss by mail. Please ring the office on 01782 661777 or 01782 661666 and we will be able to help you. Please be aware that if you are asked to film on a specific day and you say yes, you will be expected to turn up as agreed. We cannot except people not turning up as promised or ringing the day before with reasons why they are unable to go. We were supposed to have 100 so say"joy division fans" on set this morning, yet 40 managed not to turn up as they promised, and have jeopardised the making of the film. Please only contact us if you are serious.

Many Thanks

Tim.

Well, me & Pam were there today after a 10am phone call and a two hour drive to the arse end of nowhere (ie - village outside Mansfield). It was fun: the 'band' look spot on, and even more impressively can really play all the tunes - they kept casually knocking them out between takes! All the key cast were on set today, including Samantha Morton with fake pregnancy-belly, and all were very friendly: the scene was a gig at Eric's; the tune they were playing was SLC. It was far too fucking hot, and there were far too many would-be luvvies and art student tosspots for my liking, but I enjoyed the day and would do further shoots if asked. Yeah, the crowd was a bit sparse after various dropouts, but camera angles will sort that out for the final version.

Interesting day, for various reasons. My expectations for the film have been raised accordingly.....

Were you told not to dance so aggressively? :skeptic:

The 'crowd' were largely made up of folk from 'extras acting agencies' so there wasn't much aggressive dancing! In fact, there was a strange tendency to keep moving 18 year old girls to the front, which I'm sure made it easier on the cameraman's eye, but not exactly the key demographic for Joy Division gigs, eh?

Open your mind Martin! :evil4:

market JD as a goth band, you'll ahve loads of silly little 18 year old goths there, usually getting carried out after 1 song!
