Discography: an update on the horizon...

I am in the process of updating the New Order Discography at http://www.niagara.edu/neworder. It's been almost 2.5 years since the last update (no updates since Retro) so there's quite a bit of new releases to add.

I thought I post some of the additions here in order to make sure that I've covered as mush as possible. The subject line for these posting will start with "Discography:" so that people not interested in the stuff can skip reading the posts...

Since the last update of the Discography, I believe the following albums and singles have been released:

We've also seen the release of the videos Item and Colorcam. Have I missed any other important releases? I will post the details regarding the albums and singles in separate posts (in a few days). If you have scans/photos of various releases, please send them to me.

As for compilations (latest added is "Cool as Ice"), here are some of the important ones. Please let me know if I have missed any or any specific releases or promos.

The Club Anthems Classics [Dec 2005]

3xCD: UK 2006 (Virgin VTDCD 764) Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head

• The tracks are not in a continuous mix. "Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head" is a mash-up of Kylie Minogue's "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" and "Blue Monday". At Kylie's live appearance at the Brit Awards in early 2002, she blended her "Can't Get You Out Of My Head" with "Blue Monday". The track became popular and was also released as a b-side to Kylie's "Love at First Sight" single.

"Item" was an US-only release. Here in Europe "Collection" and "Neworderstory" were released as separate, her, "items" :D

Am quite happy to send you any scans of affore mentioned items senor TLV,just drop me a line. Did i mention that there was a regret nuocd1 uk promo,with promo printed on the disc ?same case as standard release.mite have mentioned it before,anyways.

Go figure, as far as I can find out Item has been released in the US, Australia, EU (NTSC), and France (PAL). My copy of Item says "Manufactured in EU", but I seems to remember that I bought it from HMV.uk. I think there was a poster I never received... I'm not 100% sure about the FR one, but some french site specifically said it was a FR release. I would also assume that it is released in Japan. Confirmation?

I haven't really figured out how to handle the digital downloads. From iTunes etc., is it possible to download the tracks individually, or does one have to buy the entire "album"?

Good question - I've tried looking at HMV Japan, but they don't mention anything about Japanese release of Item, Collection or Story... There are, however, several different issues of "Pumped Full Of Drugs" on DVD (Japan) with different catalogue numbers - not sure what they all are, but I could do some digging?

Yes, you can indeed download (most) of the tracks individually - the only one I bothered to download off the "Best Remixes" iTunes album was the Live Video Edit of "The Perfect Kiss" (exclusive in digital format to iTunes) - same version as is on the US Promo 12" of "The Perfect Kiss".

if you are going include compilations then this should be there. see disc two. New Order Jetstream Jaques Lu Cont remix. it has a nice mix in from Dare, Perhaps it should even be counted as a unique mix as it has unique mix drum beat.

You have info on NME CD and Shadowplayers?

The 808 State remixes are no remixes but covers. So even if they are interesting from a NO perspective, they won't be in the Discography.

AFAIK, the Vinyl Loops is a bootleg release.

Extensive interviews with Hooky, Saville, and Wilson (among many others) covering Factory from '78 to '81, so, lots about Joy Division and New Order's first steps from those three.

808 State Remixes are covers? Original production only? OK. Funny, they were promoted everywhere as remixes. Must dust them off and have another listen.

The vinyl loops was released on Amato, ie. the same group who had rights to the 12x12" issue. This arrangement was Peter Hook's work from memory. Grey area I guess.

Since when did releases verging on bootleg not make the discography anyhow? There's still stuff like that Middle Eastern "Greatest Hits of New Order" still nestled away in there. ;)

According to 808 State News (February 2004), the tracks are covers. "The 'So Hot' EP features the cover version of Blue Monday." "Blue Monday (known as So Hot due to Gerald's vocal) was made to take down to one of the 'Hot' nights at the Hacienda and was never really intended as a release."

It sounds to me that it's a cover, until anyone proves me wrong.

Edit: My bad. I had it included already. I was probably thinking of that BM release on blue vinyl.

True. I guess bootlegs-made-to-look-like-proper-release-in-"exotic"-country makes it, while other boots won't... It's kind of a subjective area. The DJ remixes is another is-this-a-bootleg discussion...

Yes, Rephlex promoted it as remixes, but they were essentially cover versions to promote the Hacienda "Hot" nights (every Wednesday during the summer of '88). There *might* be samples within the songs, but still really cover versions...

The Beautiful Game LP UK 1996 BMG Records UK: 38208.1 [Picture disc vinyl] I don't know whether all vinyl releases of this compilation came as a 'limited edition picture disc, but this one does. Features the Mark Bell remix as per other versions. Same cat number as listed.

Also, that NME CD was packaged with the 26 Feb 2005 edition.
