Lonesome Tonight, what do you think?

A classic NO tune
Was Steve's drumming on it once described as an increasingly rare example of "freestyle"?.Whatever ,top song
Well, NO didn't play many b-sides live, that was one of them.
This is probably the song that would benefit from a refresh, but it's a long I love when I'm melancholic (sp?)... with Leave Me Alone and a few like that.
kREMLIN did a marvellous version of it on Community 2.
I could have bought this on vinyl today (Thieves Like Us/Lonesome Tonight) but decided for Ceremony/In A Lonely Place (vinyl; 12"). Just found a new shop a few miles from my village selling some 80-ies vinyl stuff. They also had some Joy Division on vinyl so maybe I'll be back tomorrow.
Great bass riffs, Hooky was inspired... But that's not one of my favorites. Just a good song.
Said it before, but I love, love, love this one, when I first played the 12" vinyl, I mistakenly cued the needle to play the b-side first. Played it about 15 times in a row before I flipped the record over.
Definetly a classic NO song: it has everything a NO fan could dream of (stunning guitar and bass lines among other things). Sure one of my favorite NO tunes ![]()

That's not really true is it? If you take into account the fact that most b-sides have been remixes then those songs have been played live, if not the specific mix.
So we have IALP (#19 played 77 times?) , EGG (#10, played 103 times), Hurt (#31, played 53 times) and Lonesome Tonight (#50, played 29 times).
With the exception of the technique singles (none of the b-sides were played live), everything since then has been a remix of the single track, a previous single or the occasional gem (Lets Go #60 played 19 times).
Lonesome Tonight? Love it, still clearly remember them starting this at Reading '87 best bit of the evening and last time they played it. Fuckers.
love it, one of those slow quirky yet classic no songs
edit
and leave me alone which im listening to at the moment. pure simple class

Funny how people list the two together, both absolutely fantastic songs, and lonsome tonight is the song that got me into NO, once I heard hooky on that I couldn't get enough, bought everything I could (which wasn't much back then).
BTW dave, are you the david ball from soft cell and the grid?, or do you get pissed off with people asking you that?
[orange]Hang on a minute - is this the song that everyone loves? No one's got a bad word against this one!
And yes I love it too![/orange]
i preferred it to thieves like us and reckon that should of been released as a single instead
top tune, last heard it live with tim from the charlatans singing it with monaco at manchester uni
