My mate Tricky says there is a version which was broadcast which had the lyric

"E is for England"

in it. Can anyone confirm this?

'we're playing for England' could've been misheard as E is for England...

That was the original chorus, but whether there is a broadcast version of that I don't know.

He always sings, "Sing E for England," instead of, "Sing-ing for England." :nod:

E is for England though. You learn that in little school.

I think that's what Keith Allen wanted to call it, obviously it was deemed an unsuitable title.

It did originally have a working title of just 'England' though which may have been shortened from 'E Is For England'.

Its funny how in 1990 calling it "E is for England" was a big no-no,yet now nobody would care. Probably cos no fucker takes ecstasy anymore!

Yep "E is for England" was the original title, with the chorus going something like: "E is for England (En-ger-land), it begins with an E..."

Keith Allen and NO were all for it but it was a big 'No, No' for the FA. Hence the reworking.

As for E is fer En-Ger-Land, should it not be E is for Exit?
