WFTSC follow up album? What happened?

Haven't been following the web site or the forums much lately, so please forgive me if this is old news. I thought that during the WFTSC recording sessions, they had basically finished most of the songs for the next album, and that it would be released in short order. So far nothing. Did they abandon the new album, or ???

good question. where the f*** is it?

Yeah it was called "Singles"... :brow:

it's a big lie. one after another...

Hooky's played a song from the new album at his DJ gigs recently, so it's still in the works. I would guess either a holiday release or early next year if touring gets in the way of finishing it up. Just be patient.

What happens?

Seriously?

They decided to TOUR instead, and they decided to participate in the soundtrack of the movie Control.

Songs exists, but they didn't get back to studio as of yet. They still plan to release TURN as a single, but that was postponed, so who knows what will happen.

Hopefully the album will be finished off late this year / early next ;)

Who cares? You'll only start going on about the album after that then.

Personally, there's no point in releasing Turn now, unless they want to share some nice new b-sides with us( hahahahaha,I know, what was I thinking!),time has moved on from WFTSC & even Singles for that matter so let it be.& it wouldn't make a great addition to the singles history really, would it? As for the 'follow -up album',most of the stuff was scrapped wasn't it as they weren't happy with it,according to Hooky,on this very site if I'm not mistaken?:nono:  :thumb:

Here's my thought on the Turn singles tracklisting:

NUO17CD1 (UK) Turn (Radio edit) I Told You So (Stuart Price remix) Regret (Tocadisco dub) Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Filterheadz mix)

NUO17CD2 (UK) Turn True Faith (King Roc mix) Regret (Tocadisco mix) Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Asle dub)

iTunes (USA only) Turn (Radio edit) Regret (Tocadisco mix) Regret (Tocadisco dub) I Told You So (Stuart Price remix) True Faith (King Roc mix) Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Filterheadz mix) Waiting For The Sirens' Call (Asle dub)

NUO17 (Dutch release in awful cardsleeve!!) Turn (Radio edit) Turn

Indeed I'm from the rainy lowlands... :banghead:

You are a bit mistaken, yes Mark! I understand that Brian Higgins was doing some remixes of stuff for single releases, and it is that which was scrapped, not the album stuff that they were doing with Tore Johannson. There are still 7 finished songs.

Yeah, just imagine if something substantial happens ... you know, like, I dunno, let's go craaazy - say, seven (yes, SEVEN!) English/Scotch gigs coming up, over a three week period.

Imagine what it would be like here if that were to happen.

W/R/T Hooky DJing new song(s):

I would suspect DepthCharge will provide a full report after the Australian gigs. Perhaps DC could even get some press credentials and sit down with Peter for a 20-minute interview.

I'm pretty sure they've written some new material, from what I hear. Maybe they've postponed the album or something. I'm just going to be a bit more patient here. :read: :)

well im going to the hooky gig sept 21 so i will fuckin tell you all, in inspirational rythmic language.

they better not make me throw away my organic apples in my bag that i take in, i once went to a gig and the security made me dispose of my precious sustinance, me organic apples. i need them for energy, vitamins and the all important minerals, when i dance that spastic and hard-out.... you need something healthy to keep a sunny disposition of body and mind, you want to make the (very precious) most of every moment at a musical gig. the cunts took my filtered water that time as well, i was too tight with my money to buy water so i went to the toilets and carefuly drank from the taps.

I would suspect that there was/has been some panic in Warner/New Order camp after the badly received mediocre WFTSC. Ok we are all dedicated fans on this site and love our NO and welcome all their efforts. Still no one can deny that both Get Ready and WFTSC didn´t do to well and therefore I think they threw away most of the songs that remained from the WFTSC. To release the rest of WFTSC would just not be good idea. Time is now for NO to do something inventinve. The pilot single Krafty, didn´t do to well. Jetstream went justifiably unnoticed. The single WFTSC which in the bands opinion is their best song ever didn´t do to much though maybe heard a few times on the radio. - That should be of concern that your absolutely best effort does not do to well. -We are talking about a band that did Blue Monday, True Faith, BLT. -All monumental songs.

So they simply have to do better.

I think Waiting For The Sirens Call (the song) ,Turn and Who's Joe (and even Krafty for me ,except for maybe the weak chorus) are up there with songs like True Faith .Its just to the general public New Order don't interest them anymore. Its just the old hardcore ,and a random sprinkling of newbies, that are still buying the songs.

In my opinion it's not the music that shouldn't be that good anymore - by the way, I think WFTSC is one of their best albums... - it's a lack of good promotion. We all know that there are lots of promo cd's around, but delivered initially at the 'wrong' persons, I suppose. I think they only played one time Krafty at the Dutch radio and that was it! So, it's not the band or the music - it's just a lack of promotion: no airplay, no concerts since 1984 or so, no tv-appearances, only a few singles in a few shops... it's more No Order instead of New Order... perhaps the sleeve of WFTSC was especially designed for Dutch promotion

I agree with this- Promotion was / is the problem. WFTSC is loads more marketable than Get Ready (although I love them both); the more I listen to WFTSC the more I think it's a tradgedy that it's been overlooked...

I like Krafty and WTFSC-the song very much. I think just the majority of listeners are not to keen on New Order. Lack of promotion or not. True Faith if I remember correctly was not promoted very much. Its quality made it a favorite with many listeners. Somehow NO is lacking that now even if the quality is there,..at least most of the time.
They need another True Faith or Regret. Something that gets airway exposure

Ah... this could happen:

Another compilation :thumb: This time with all the singles b-sides, omitted a-sides... Here the tracklisting:

Disc 1: In A Lonely Place (7") Mesh Cries And Whispers Hurt (7") Rocking Carol Ode To Joy Blue Monday (7") Confusion (UK 7") or Confused Beats Lonesome tonight (7") The Kiss Of Death (7") Perfect Pit Dub-vulture (7") Thieves Like Us Instrumental (7") Shame Of The Nation (7") Bizarre Dub Triangle (7") Evil Dust Let's Go (Arthur Baker Mix) 1963

Disc 2: Touched By The Hand Of Dub (7") Beach Buggy (7") Don't Do It Best & Marsh (7") MTO The Happy One The B-side (7") [4:48 version] Regret (The New Order Mix) Vicious Circle (The New Order Mix) World (Tony Garcia radio mix) Let's Go Blue Monday '95 (Hardfloor Radio Mix) Behind Closed Doors Sabotage Player In The League Such A Good Thing Vietnam Temptation (Secret Machines remix - edit) Everything's Gone Green (Cicada remix) Bizarre Love Triangle (Richard X remix - edit)

Due to release: probably the same day as the Turn single...

I disagree regarding the True Faith promotion. Well at least over here in the Netherlands the song was aired more often in comparison with Krafty, they even played the video on tv and there were lots of items written in the media. Because of that I didn't just 'like' the music of New Order anymore, it made me want to buy everything of them... I can hardly imagine this could happen to another 15 year old kid over here these days... :brow:

I would have to agree, atleast here in the Charlotte area, you never hear anything New Order played on the radio, unless they go back to do an 80's night. Without radio airplay, it makes it hard for New Order to get new fans, that would then go out and buy the CD's, since most people are not hearing the music on the radio.

I was actually suprised when the local paper did a review of PSB's Fundamental. Normally they will just review the new Country or R&B/Rap CD's and gave it 3 1/2 stars out of 4.

I don't the NO has ever been well promoted around here, Regret excepted. There's probably something else to it. Maybe the public want a "newer, fresher" band. Still, I think WFTSC was a very good album and could have done much better with proper promotion, but let's face it, self promotion has never been one of NO's strong points/

Try sneaking in some Powerbars. Much easier to conceal than apples, and they'll give you all the energy you need.

There was a thread around here in DR by people who'd heard Hooky play it during a DJ set, but I couldn't find the thread, else I'd have put a link in here. It did sound pretty good, from what I recall though.

We've no choice to to be patient.

Very true. The fact it was just 3 1/2 years between Get Ready and WFTSC is a minor miracle.

Has anyone info on how many units the last album have shifted?

Technique - 1 to 2 million ? Republic - over 2 million ? Get Ready - less than a million ? WFTSC - less than 500,000 copies.

Would be interesting to know.

But the back catalogue and older albums should be selling at least steadiliy as NO is truly an established act.

I'd be happy waiting until 2011 if it means the next album is amazing. WFTSC is OK, but I thought it sounded rushed.

The momentum picked up after WFTSC and Singles was lost when the single slated for release to help push both albums, Turn, failed to be released. Quite why it never appeared I don't know because no explanation has been forthcoming but hey! It's New Order not fucking Coldplay!

As for WFTSC selling fewer units than previous albums, it should be noted that albums generally sell fewer units than they did in the eighties and most of the nineties. You can get to number one with fifty thousand sold these days.

Certainly there seems to be some confusion between Warners and whoever is doing the band's PR and publicity. First items are listed for release, the release dates come and go and...no product is forthcoming! This could lead to a cry wolf situation whereby London trail the release of something but no-one believes it will be released!

This is clearly bollocks and something should be done. We're dedicated fans but we need a clearer picture of what's coming out and when. 2009? Someone's having a tin one! :)

Myself included,i think weve all been pretty naive to think wed get another album within 12-18 months after Waiting For The Sirens Call. Even more so once Singles was released.

That said, for a group that take their time,if you count up all the albums, side project albums and compilations we`ve had it comes to about 38 albums. which in just under 30 years is quite prolific.

Sounds about right. Think the problem with Warners is they, like us dont know what New Order will do next. They could deliver a new album next week or never record anything again-thus making them not a priority when they do release something.

Take away all the lost time for pernod and drugs, suicide and illness, dealing with the Hacienda, problems with dealing AT the Hacienda, Factory imploding, getting new members in and - most of all - bickering and I reckon that 30 years easily becomes 20...
